I really need to start taking fitness a bit more seriously, just weighed myself for the first time in a while and it's a PB. It's only a matter of time until I watch a game of rugby where I'm bigger than anyone playing.

I do quite enjoy distance running when I can find the time, which is a huge shock shock me because I hated it until about 10 years ago. But it's not really doing the trick, reckon I need to mix it up with some strength and more dynamic stuff, anything really to defer the acceptance that it's actually the food and drink that's the problem.

You have any kind of program you follow NTA?

@gibbonrib not really. Try to do something 6 days a week and get on top of the eating.

@nta Bah, that's not the kind of enablement I was looking for.

Yeah, think I just to google a decent plan and decide to do it. From past experience I find it a lot easier to eat better when I'm more active at the same time, don't know if it's psychological or physiological but I just crave better food when I'm training. (At least I used to, been a long time since I've done much).

    🙂

When I first started the weight loss a decade ago, I got myself running 3 times per week - Mon/Wed/Fri - first thing in the morning, starting 3km. I was 116kg so that was quite an effort. As the weight fell off, moved to 5km and then would do the odd longer distance on a Sunday.

The main thing was eating. Still is. So I'd be really strict during the week and on Saturday do whatever the fuck I wanted. I soon learned that sugar was not only my real weakness, but also that eating large quantities of carbs - like a whole loaf of sourdough with butter on a Saturday - was a bad thing. Constipation is a wonderful instructor.

Weigh in Thursday morning - last week versus this week:

    Week 0: Weight 107.80kg, Chest 117cm, Waist 115cm, Hips 116cm

    Week 1: Weight 107.05kg, Chest 117cm, Waist 115cm, Hips 115cm

    Week 2: Weight 106.60kg, Chest 117cm, Waist 115cm, Hips 115cm

Was a good week despite a bit of bloating from something I ate on the weekend. Hopefully all clear now.

Looking to press on with a couple of big weeks, particularly as I have next week off and there is the opportunity to get into some walking days of 20km+ with a daypack, as I continue the hike training.

From doing this before, it'll be about 2 more weeks before the results start becoming visible and that is the only thing keeping me away from the alcohol and excess snacking 😀 I've had a couple of spirits and might reward myself with a beer on the couch this Saturday as I watch the rugby.

Walk this arvo with a bit of jogging to get the heat rate up and prevent boredom.

Walk today. Calves were feeling it the first couple of klicks. Basically no jogging at all except a couple of street crossings, so decent pace.

Put the day pack on with snacks and fluids, then headed out with the goal of knocking off 20km.

First 12 were a piece of piss, t resting every 5 or so to refuel. They left hasn't started to complain shortly thereafter.

Got to 15.8km and the Garmin Battery looked a bit flat, so I changed over to phone. Merging those files fucking sucked, so the lesson is: charge your battery!

Will be interesting to see how I pull up tomorrow, and I'm now thinking about house much harder that would be with a full pack over terrain 😐

How many steps is 20km approximately. My phone only tells me steps, not distance.

About 23,000 for someone like me. For a big streak like you, probably less.

We racked up close to 33,000 on holiday in Akaroa earlier this year. “We” is a bit misleading though as the other half has shorter legs than me but her phone hasn’t got enough memory to download the app.

I’m not surprised we covered a few km, we walked all fucken day ( with a much needed pub stop at the end )

    Total for September so far:

    Walk 163.73km
    Run 8.35km
    Bone 21.34km

Total is 193.42km so I can get to 200 tomorrow with a lazy stroll.

    Week 3: Weight 106.70kg 😐 , Chest 117cm, Waist 114cm, Hips 115cm

Bit of a plateau weight wise - mainly to do with eating yesterday which was not great. I can't even use the excuse of being on annual leave, because I'm ALWAYS fucking home these days 🙂 but it is an opportunity to really smash next week's result.

At least the waist is starting to come in a bit and I'll add more sessions for abs and body weight this week rather than just doing massive distance.

If the tape measure starts looking good, the weight is kind of irrelevant.

Slow start to October so far - motiviation a little low on the long weekend with a few drinks 🙂 but DST kicking in and going back to work gives me an opportunity to get back into it.

Yesterday was a half-jog thing. The new Merrell Trail Glove 6 is a weird fit and I'm keen to see how long they last - the TG 4 and 5 were about 400km recorded but I also used them casually a fair bit.

Next step is to look at the calorie calculations on Strava and see what is the level of effectiveness of walking v running. As the weather heats up, taking walks in the middle of the day just won't be practical.

@mn5 was already 26C for that walk at 9AM.

Later in the year it'll be 30+ at 8AM.
