v Hawkes Bay

Northland: Solomon Alaimalo, Jordan Hyland, Rene Ranger, Jack Goodhue, Matt Wright, Peter Breen, Sam Nock, Matt Matich, Dan Pryor, Murray Douglas, Tim Bond, Josh Goodhue, Ropate Rinakama, Matt Moulds (c), Ross Wright.
Reserves: Jordan Olsen, Phil Kite, Chris Apoua, Michael Faleafa, Kara Pryor, Emil Pittman, Dan Hawkins, Tamati Tua.Ram out of the 23 completely, I'd have him on the bench ahead of Fluffy V2.
No mention of Macilai, who must be injured, hopefully Hyland can step it up, he has struggled the last couple of games and been exposed going back.

Need the maximum 5 points from this one. I'm sure the lads won't be taking Hawkes Bay lightly, they have a strong halves combo, and I'm sure West will put plenty of cross kicks in Hylands direction, he better be on point this week!
Hawkes Bay will be up for a scrap, but by the looks of their team they have all eyes on their derby clash with Manawatu next week (which I hope they win for our sake)..
No Ram and Macilai is surprising, not sure what's up there. Rest and rotation maybe??
-
@j77 would assume if fit, Macilai would be starting, I can see why they are starting Douglas over Ram, but not FV2 on the bench over him.
Yeah Hyland did find himself out of position a few times, particularly in the Otago & Counties games and when they put kicks in behind he was very slow in turning and getting back.
Hopefully he re-captures his form the earlier games.

I don't know, good time to rest your top players in a guaranteed win.
Oi, stop coming on here trying to jinx us..
Even my best jinxing would have no effect, we're an un-coached rabble this year.
Hell, I daresay you wont even need Steve Walsh to manufacture a draw for you guys this year.

@nepia haha, it still hurts you 11 years later bro? We were a sidleline conversion away from winning that match from what I recall..
11 years, feels like yesterday and my anger will never subside :), if Steve Walsh could have gotten under the post for that conversion he would have raised both touchies flags.
-
@Nepia Steve Walsh shoulda binned one of your cheating cnuts at about 72 mins anyway!

Clearly he'd lost his yellow card on the field somewhere because you;d think he'd jump at a the chance of a legitimate ruling to go with all the dodgy ones.

I think he was too busy trying to raise his own flag off the paddock..

Shoulda been a YC for tackling nock there, he woulda scored if not.
-
Making this look really hard
-
No need to be overly concerned TR HB are only just holding in there with some last ditch tackles stopping your guys from inflating the score board. And as I write that Rene Ranger does break through and score, This could be the start of the flood gates opening.
-
Couldn't quite finish off. Wanted them to go for 4th try in 65th minute instead of penalty. What followed was classic Northland. Hawkins kick - wtf?, white line fever, but we got it done...unfortunately we need 1 more point from the last game to guarantee finals. Otherwise we rely mostly I think on Waikato beating BOP.
-
@kev wtf was that kick, we missed what happened.
We need to start holding some of those passes and just better ball security.
If Jone is fit id like to see him, Solomon & Rene as our back 3.
We need points from Wellington, we would need to play outstandingly (which could happen) to beat them, but getting BPs will be vital, although we have struggled with BPs this season.

@taniwharugby I turned from the TV but presume he just kicked crossfield poorly...
