Not only the greatest trilogy, and right up there with the best movies. But must've been a tight crew, getting together for many wines, then onto the shots - awesome! Bloom looks fucked haha
Not even in my top ten trilogies

For the purpose of my argument and to ensure I don’t show any weakness on the fern by backing down I’m going to list movie franchises I think are better ( many of these are or were trilogies at some stage )
Star Wars
Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
Aliens
Terminator
James Bond
Dollars trilogy…..Hmmmm maybe it does make my top ten.
Was gonna list Jaws and Robocop but they were let down by some utter shit at the end. Terminator gets in on the strength of the first two…..
I just don’t think LOTR is quite as great as people make out.

So it my favourite, for sure
Star wars is great, for it's time. But they're still pretty average as movies.
Indiana Jones is good, but cheesy
Back to the future 1 is good, the others not so much
Aliens 1 is awesome, 2 is good, 3+ not
Terminator 1 and 2 great, 3+ shit
James bond ain't a trilogy
No idea what the dollars trilogy is
Hot Fuzz etc is a good trilogyLotR just rocks, hold up so well, such attention to detail, cinematography, music. And redemption for DnD nerds.
Each to their own to, all IMO

I thought it might! Lots of great movies, few that have three good ones in a row.
For me, they are near apex cinema. Hold up well, superb films, and the NZ landscapes are epic. Love it.

I appreciate the fair response. I think the thing that pissed me off was Jackson cutting the Saruman scenes just so he could throw in more shots of Hobbits playing in a bed together.
…..and you do make a good point about some trilogies being totally let down by one shit entry in the series.
( in the case of Jaws everything since the first one, it was a classic as a standalone film, how they thought they could milk it as a decent franchise is beyond me )

Without a definitive list of trilogies it's hard to say definitely, but, it likely wouldn't make mine, LOTR just isn't my bag. Watched them all once and have never felt the need to watch them again. Have nothing against them though, just not for me.
Although if @Machpants stands by his claim that the original trilogy are pretty average movies then I will have to ascribe that rating to the LOTR trilogy too.
