@Kirwan I am a big fan of black coffee for my limited attempts at fasting. Building the habit is a funny old thing in my experience to date. I've gone from finding it (really) hard not to snack after 8, to finding it harder not eating before say 9-10am. I only aim for a 12 hour window overnight - although I am reducing portion size overall to drop total intake.

Do you use any apps to help track everything?

Cool that your tweak is having an impact, it's like calibrating or tuning a high performance machine (no, I haven't been talking to your missus) to get things humming!!

I'm pretty lucky, I never ate after 8pm anyway, so that part was easy. And my breakfast was at 9pm, so the start was only waiting 3hours.

I use the iOS Health App, and just added Happy Scale to the phone which has some nice small targets/reports in it. Smooths the charts to a rolling average so you don't go mental watching the scale go up and down daily.

@mariner4life my mate has been doing fasting for a while and his take/info says no to black coffee, water only. But I can't make no kai in the morning and skip coffee.

the wife is doing it now. and she is still having black coffee.

her meals look boring as fuck.

I'm eating like a rabbit that likes cheese.

@mariner4life nope. You need a little more protein doing this, and you don't have restrictions on what you can eat, just how much of it and when.

So if you are on a fasting day and your max number of calories is 800, you can eat whatever you like to get to 800. You will be fuller for longer if you eat vegetables though.

If you are on the 16/8 or 20/4 flavour as well, you are burning fat from about hour 12 of your fast, so it doesn't matter then either.

yea, my tongue was firmly in my cheek when i said it.

I think people who do this stuff are incredible. I am not sure i would have the intestinal fortitude.

Mrs Mariner is doing it, and it's killing her because i still smack back calories at dinner.

My neighbour just finished it to get himself down in weight for a fight. he hated it too.

@mariner4life oh there are days it's tough, no doubt about it. Especially when you realise just how many calories you were smashing in a day. I'm surprised I wasn't bigger than I was.

It's likely pizza/takeway night here tonight, and I'm having a chicken salad!

That said, twice a month you are supposed to load up, and I time those for Fridays and join in. I bounce up and back down 1kg over two days when I do that.

@Kirwan i just spoke to Mrs Mariner about dinner, suggested our often Friday dinner of burgers. Halfway through that sentence i remembered "oh, okay, sorry, what are YOU having for dinner".

I'm going to have a burger and a couple of beers in front of the footy.

@mariner4life Yeah, I'm big on not forcing other people to suffer with me. It's my diet, not anyone elses.

And I'm feeling so much better, it's not that much of burden. Especially now I have gamified it, and locked the OCD tendancies into full gear.

@Kirwan that probably makes things harder, so well done. We are almost at 3 separate meals in the house now. Mine, the missus', and the kids. But, everyone is happy, and i don't mind the cooking.

I would say the huge number of salads is probably easier living in the tropics, because at least it is still hot.

Mrs Mariner is using some app as well. It's funny watching her scan barcodes to get the calorie intake. Did you know a bunch of asparagus has more calories than a black coffee? That can't be right.

MyFitnessPal? Black Coffee only has 3 calories, so would be hard to have less.

Kind of surprised about the Coke Zero thing, it’s a pretty obvious difference. Down 1.4kg in a week with no other change, if anything a little more lax with the amount of calories (closer to 1200 than 800).

So doing 19/20 hours of fasting, on target to at my goal in 6/7 weeks.

@Kirwan absolutely spot on with sweeteners... I don't do intermittent but noticed it when doing Keto- LCHF. I'm generally sensible and low carb most of the year but I do keto every spring until summer and I found early on that sweeteners definitely mess with losses and they don't help with sugar cravings.
Are you having many carbs in this diet? Intermittent and low carb go well together apparently. Don't know if it's suitable for you (health wise) or not but keto is great for me, a lot of people are scared of the high fat but I am never hungry and dropping my carbs below 20 net g has an amazing effect on my concentration, tons of energy for workouts etc easily within a week or two I can see changes (not a weigher) in clothes fitting better.
Good going either way, keep it up πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ’ͺ🏻

Thanks, I'm sort of keto-ish. Any carbs I am having are mostly veges, but focusing on high protein (helps with maintaining any muscle I do have left, and hunger) and healthy fats.

I'm not too focused on that though, it's more the calorie deficit and the amount of calories I'm more interested in.

Currently tracking around 12kg weight loss (almost 10kg since the end of January). About 3.5kg to the main goal weight.

After my coffee boost, it's slowed down again, but at least I'm off the Coke Zeros completely now. Experimenting with a slightly longer fast window today, but I'm off on holiday next week and I see some people reccomend having a break of a routine to kick off losses again, so that's an opportunity for that.

If it stays flat for the next three weeks, then I might look at starting the exercising earlier than I planned (under 80). Was avoiding that to help keep the hunger/portions under control.

Exercise did the trick, did a 2.5hr trek over the coastal walk between Murawai and Bethels (amazing scenery) an a 6km walk about here. Both while fasted (24hr and 20/4 for the rest of the week).

That’s got me under 83kg, which was the target the doctors gave me to finish off the health issues I’ve been having.

Looking back, the last time I was in this range was Feb 2016.

Took a break over Easter and off on holiday, and decided not to restrict anything.

I’m so used to the fasting window that I still stayed on 16/8 most days. Easter was a 1kg jump and the holiday another 1.5kg, which is fine.

Been back a week and did 20/4 and two 24/1 and it’s all back off.

So under 83kg and setting sights back on under 80kg, will see if the reset breaks the plateau.
