I prefer Pearl Jam over Foos to listen to but after three PJ Concerts, I find they lack a bit Live. First Concert of theirs I went to was fabulous, the second, great. and the third just good.

Everyone that goes to Foos concerts any time even the 5th and 6th come out saying the energy is amazing

Did you go to the mount smart gig in 1995 ? Poor old Dead flowers only got to do one song before they were pulled off stage. Tim and Neil Finn came out at the end and did a couple of their songs with Eddie. -

Been listening to a lot of Harry Nilsson lately. Some of you may remember this gem from "Goodfellas."

Learned it on guitar because fucking guitar. That and Sweet Child were the only songs worth knowing and playing badly on a shitty $200 guitar with a shitty $50 tube drive amp.

Classic hi-cut 90s babes with massive hair. A complete absence of any guitar equipment to signify actual music was played. Alice Cooper poisoning some blonde chick.

The understanding in my later years that there was probably a kilo of Columbian Gold on a table somewhere out of shot, and that the band were probably laughing their jacked up arses off between takes only adds to the fond memories.
-

Just survived the coldest month ever recorded where I live. And it continues into March. Think about that for a second -- it's reallyfuckingcold.

There is nothing amusing about it. I had successfully purged my mind of Yes, King Crimson, ELP and all the other bloated mid 70's prog rock phenomenons and now this - asshole ;)
-

The temperature just soared all the way to 3 degrees in the Great White North yesterday, first time past zero in three months. It's practically balmy. And with the clocks moved forward for day-light savings 24hrs earlier, geeze it's starting to feel like summer.
-

It's the curse of "Without You". The two original Badfinger members who wrote it (Pete Ham and Tom Evans) both hung themselves after being royally screwed over by their manager, Stan Polley, and then other members of the group. They hardly saw a penny of the royalties, and Polley famously used to take 75% or more of their income as "commission" without disclosing it to them. The court cases to sort out the actual royalties that were due weren't done until about 18 months ago and nearly 40 years after their deaths Evans and Ham are now very rich.

Then Nilsson had a heart attack due to the stress of having to constantly fend off creditors including the IRS after his financial manager Cindy Sims stole his (and others') money.

Finally Mariah Carey's histrionic version made her famous but didn't prevent her remaining a talentless, shrill harpy.
-

I haven't seen it yet, but this doc from a year and a half ago is on my want-list:

A decent bio of Nilsson came out a year or so ago. Nilsson: The life of a singer-songwriter by Alyn Shipton. Hugely expensive but I eventually got it on Kindle for about 10 bucks. BTW I got to know Alyn Shipton through a bio of Cab Calloway he did a while ago. Well worth a read if you can get hold of it; amazing what black musicians had to put up with not that long ago, they could be rolling in money and still get treated like shit.
