Waikato v Magpies - Ranfurly Shield
-
Yeah, I know, it's a bit early for a thread. But the fact that we get a challenge brings back memories. And Brad Weber is getting it from some Bay fans after that tweet haha.
.
Anyway, our last challenge, when we won the Shield off Counties, was on 30 August 2014. We successfully defended the Shield in that period 11 times, until that day that Brad is now reminded of.

Just to remind folks of 24 September, 1966
Waikato 00 - 06 Hawkes Bay -
Shit, I had literally just started watching Taranaki-Waikato... had been avoiding the match thread to avoid spoiling the result - then saw this thread title jump out at me.
Now switching to watch the "condensed" version of it instead. -
According to this morning's HB Today Ash Dixon is out for the rest of the season.
-
@number-10 Yeah, I read that; it's shit news.
Ozich confirmed Dixon will miss the remainder of the season with his knee injury. Evans collected an eye injury but should be available for Thursday night's Ranfurly Shield Challenge against Waikato in Hamilton, Power collected a sprig to his hand and a decision on his availability won't be made until after scans are done and Allardice was suffering from a virus which forced him from the field.

22 Sasa Tofilau
23 Michael Buckley..
HBRU still hasn't announced the squad on its social media, but this one is from the Mitre 10 Cup website. HBT has Allardice at 4 and Parsons at 5. Anyway, Kereru-Symes is already our 3rd hooker, who is now covered on the bench by a prop (who can play at 2). I hope KK-S can stay fit and healthy. Quite interesting to see Tremain getting his first start ahead of Kaifa, who has been good thus far. Dunn and Tofilau rotate again.

You suckers are going DOWN!!!!!!

Just know that if you win I will be changing my post to add "back to The Bay with the shield"
-
It must be quite special for the Tremain family to see Will getting his first start in a Ranfurly Shield Challenge.

7:30pm your time - well I hope it is, 5:30pm here and I can watch as soon as I get home from work.
-
Oh no, just got back to the flat and my scarf, beanie and flag are missing. I suspect by what also is missing from my fridge it all points to a certain Mitre10 Cup player from another province (who also happens to have had a family connection with Waikato). Does that warrant a 111 call to the police to report vital HB supporters gear missing?
-
Waikato 00 - 07 The Bay after 5 minutes, is it too soon to get our hopes up yet (especially with Tiaan Falcon looking to be carrying a shoulder injury)?
-
Oh no, P Dunn just been binned for a pile driving tackle
-
Dunn back on, but at the cost of seven points. 24 minutes now gone in a fairly even contest so far but with the home side holding a slight possession and territorial advantage.
Waikato 07 - 10 The Bay -
A bit of relief at last with Tom Parsons over for a driving maul try in the left hand corner after 36 minutes
Waikato 21 - 15 The Bay -
WTF, who knew you could get a penalty for having your mouthguard in a sock ... and it could be the game changing penalty.
Stupid by Dunn to do that tackle after the earlier one, that's Solomone Kata level dumb.
Also, that dipshit Lose called us Of Plenty.
-
So basically two of the Waikato tries are due to stupid Magpies mistakes. We're still in this.

And Waikato's useless lineout thrower for the Reece try.
-
So the Waikato supporters didn't even manage to create a thread on the main board?!!
Go Hawkes Bay - and these might be the only times you hear me say that this century!
-
@nepia I'm still spewing over that one. Surely Reece must not have been the requisite 10 metres back from the line of touch until he was allowed to advance.
-
@chris-b Perhaps they are all at the game? Speaking of which I have not yet spotted Stockcar86 waving his flag yet.
-
@nepia didnt know that was a thing at this level, in Jnr rugby refs tell you they will YC you if you dont have mouthguard in.
-
Another rolling maul lineout drive try coming up?
-
Blast am poor lineout followed up by a Taulagi forward pass to J Lowe when he was is a semi space 20 metres short. Please note HB Captain, that is why you always take the easy three points from a easy kickable penalty instead of going for glory.

Why would we? Posters can come here.
Bryant finally spots a forward pass, sadly it was a Bay one and the two he's missed have been from the Mooloo.

Yep, should have taken the 3.

I'd rather they did the same in this case too.
-
Geez Hawke's Bay really don't want to win this game, and Isa Nacewa is really annoying to listen to.
-
JJ Taulagi sadly not having one of his better days. Hopefully he might pull of one bit of magic to bring about a HB try to make up for some of his little mishaps.
-
Penalty try????? Looked like a try coming up for me until the illegal collapse by Waikato

Judging by the stands I'd guess not!

Brother is there @Higgins . Iām confined to bed with a stuffed back and a bucketload of Tramadol
-
Ten minutes of dominance by the Bay leads to nothing with Waikato getting a lucky possession and scoring completely against the run of play down the other end, adided by a Taulagi (or whoever it is wearing the orange/red boots) miss tackle.

Hahaha. Upper cut for my reading and comprehension skills.
Good try Waikato. The Bay have lost the plot a bit. Should have kicked those two penalties, then their frustrations with the interpretation of the ref (Evans and Weber have permanent WTF faces) would be less of an issue.
