TR vs the future
-
Shoulders, arms, legs and a wee bit of ab's tonight, with some punch bag mixed in as well, went hard out as tomorrow is a rest day and I have a 2 day golf tournament on the weekend, which should be interesting given I havent played since April last year!<br />
<br />
Weigh in this morning at 95.7kg, after a low weight loss last week, seems to be moving quicker this week. -
Doing well there mate. Weight loss and I bet getting stronger too.<br />
<br />
Be interesting to hear how the golf goes. Sure not played for a while but sounds like you are fitter and in better shape now.<br />
<br />
I played my first game of golf for 2011 just before christmas and after about 1 year of working out I couldnt beleive how much further I was hitting it. Had absolutely no touch around the greens but I'd never been able to hit the ball as far as I do now. -
HItting the ball a long way has never been a problem for me, even at my best my touch around the greens has always been my weak point!<br />
<br />
But I have found I tend to play better when I am in better shape so hopefully off-set some of the effects of not playing.<br />
<br />
As to my strength, I would guess, but given I am trying to lose weight I have been doing higher reps for the most part, although still increasing my weight where I can, and the fact I am thinking I need more weight probably shows that?<br />
<br />
But just feel so much better, more energy without the lows and highs -
keen for any advice you are willing to give, just beatign the crap out of it at present! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Golf was a bit of a disaster (handicap match play) 1st match was rubbish, 2nd I played alot better and on a course I have played on for >20 years, I hit 2 of the biggest drives I have ever hit, but alas, my short game was up to hit's usual standard. Lost this morning, played my best golf of the weekend, and got caned, but doesnt help when due to handicap I have to give my opposition a shot on so many holes and they play as good as me<br />
<br />
So no exercising this weekend (although playing golf in 25+ heat had me sweating loads) have some tidying in the backyard to do this afternoon, and Monday is my Auckland day, so am chomping at the bit for Tuesday which is likely my next day for a workout <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> -
Bugger mate! Often a bit like that after you've had a bit of time off the greens. And big drives too....its that added muscle eh!<br />
<br />
What handicap are you playing off mate? Sucks giving away shots, especially when you're not playing as well as ya can. -
Hopefully this will take your mind off the golf. Should last about 30-40 minutes.<br />
<br />
Warm-up skipping for 5-10 mins. If like me you can't skip, then start by throwing lots of light jabs - 30 left then 30 right.<br />
Next throw light, fast 4 shot combos and pretend to duck after each combo. The "ducking" should by bending your knees not your back, so your basically doing a quick squat after each combo. A few minutes of this will get you warm-up nicely!<br />
<br />
Next up is basically interval training. Do each one for 30 secs with 10 secs rest in between. Lead with left jab, then swap over and do them leading with the right.<br />
<br />
left jab, right straight, heft hook<br />
left jab, right hook, left hook<br />
left jab, right upper cut, left upper<br />
jab, r hook, l hook, r u/cut l u/cut<br />
<br />
Build up to full power on the strraight, hooks, and upper cuts.<br />
Rest couple minutes, then it's time to "recreate" your own rounds.<br />
throw combos of choice for 30 secs, then light shots fast as you can for 10 secs. Then go back to your combos repeat etc. Do 5 sets in total - just over 3 mins. Only rest at the end. This will hurt!<br />
Do another set of 5 once you've got your breath back.<br />
<br />
Next, with no resting in between, do 15-20 squat thrusts, 10-15 press ups, 20 crunches, and then lie on back, hold legs out straight about 15cm from ground for 30 secs. Repeat the cycle.<br />
quick rest, then planks: one minute each side, one minute on your front.<br />
You are now done! Build up more intensity and power into the punch bag sessions as you get more into it. I'm still feeling my way with this but it certainly feels a good way working the muscles and getting a good cardio as well. -

NZ Golf has me still on an 8...which is probably 3 lower than where I ought to be right now, but about 3 higher than what I'd like to be on if I was playing regularly. But yeah, my 'condition' is the only thing I can attribute to hitting the ball further, as I have played over half my life on the course and even had a fella say he has never seen anyone put the ball out that far on these 2 holes in 20+ years...shame I couldnt make them count!!<br />
<br />
It has however given me a thirst to get back out and play more than I did last year (which wont be hard, already 1/3 of the way there)<br />
<br />
Cheers Cookie, I'll give it a crack! -
first workout since Thursday today, went pretty hard tonight.<br />
<br />
Shoulders, arms and legs (lighter on legs)<br />
<br />
with a 3 minute punch bag in between different exercises, and then 100 lifts with the medicine ball (form low squat to above my head) and then a set of 50, with another 5 mins on the bag to finish.<br />
<br />
Pretty happy with the medicine ball, when I started 6 weeks or so ago, I did 5 sets of 20 and was farked, so to do 100 at the end of a workout was tough, but great!!<br />
<br />
FARKED!<br />
<br />
I can see some (as minimal as it is) definition and shape coming back to my upper body, as well as my legs, the mid-section is taking it's time, but know this is always the last area to show the fruits of your labour! -
Dude I hear ya, tone in the guns, traps and pecs are coming along for me according to the wife, "abs" not so much <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ireful.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ireful:' />
-
haha I hear ya boys. I got the same. On Sunday night my wife was saying how amazed she was at much my body had changed over the last 12months, commented on my delts, traps and arms.....and then that I had almost lost my tyre and how good it would be if I managed to find my abs haha.....nice!
-
Yes!! Goal achieved!!<br />
<br />
94.7kg this morning!! 8.3kg lost since NY Day!!<br />
<br />
I guess if I keep doing what I am doing, I'll get to a point soon where my weight will settle? -
yeah, where you calorioe intake and body needs co-incide, I would guess so! 'They' reckon though it takes 6 months for your body to get used to any weight that it is at. You're body gets used to what it is, and wants to be that weight - so you nee to keep at it to keep to your weight before it becomes natural! I think my body has settled at around the 90 mark - was 89.1 at check in on Monday, and it's taking no effort to keep here any more. SO maybe add a few more calories and see what happens withough going too wild...??
-
yeah I'll probably keep going to ~90kg, but will increase my calories a little over the next week or so. Even though I was 103kg, most people didnt realise I was that big, so not alot of people have noticed much of a difference, not that that was a motivator, but then I am feeling so much better in myself, in particular with fitness and energy level.<br />
<br />
I dont often feel hungry at present with my current intake, but there are some days I do!<br />
<br />
So am the lightest I have been since late (Dec) 1999, which is pretty cool! -
bit of a bad day, food wise, a leaving lunch for one of my team in Auckland (no healthy options) and then one for someone leaving from my office in Whangarei, including beer...no worklout, will need to go extra hard tomorrow!!!
-
I am quite amazed at how this year seems to be the year that so many folk are getting in shape. I mean early January everyone says that sort of shit but come february the're back in the old habits.....in terms of keeping things going quite a few at my work are, the friday beers are basically one MAYBE two for me now as opposed to 6-7. Quite a few people have joined or rejoined gyms. My wife is getting in on the action too, shes going to the gym four times a week, putting me to shame !
-
bit of swimming this morning with TR Jnr.<br />
<br />
Mowed lawns, dug out a couple of holes (in 25+ heat) and then did a workout, shoulders, arms, legs and a bit of bag work, dont know that I have ever sweated so much in my life!! Chugging back the water of course!! -
another hard day out in the heat on Sunday mixing concrete...finished the day with a chest/back workout.<br />
<br />
Rest day yesterday.<br />
<br />
Wife went out so planned run not happening, so did an hour cardio on the bag and some crossfit type exercises with the medicine ball, got the heart rate up and the sweat flowing!<br />
<br />
Last weigh in was 94kg, so now at 9kg lost, nearing the point where I think I'll stop losing and start trying to shape better <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Had a work thing on Friday and they showed some pictures and video of our Xmas party in December, and the difference in my face was obvious! -
