Wallabies coach Michael Cheika has confirmed his 31-man squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, in front of a packed house at the Qantas Hangar in Sydney this morning. The squad, captained by Michael Hooper with Samu Kerevi as his deputy, boasts 1406 caps of Test experience, 200 more than the squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Japan will be Hooper’s second appearance at Rugby’s showpiece while 18 players are set for their Rugby World Cup debut. At the other end of the spectrum, Adam Ashley-Cooper will play in his fourth Rugby World Cup becoming just the second Wallaby to ever do so after George Gregan. Ashley-Cooper has played in 17 Rugby World Cup matches, just five games behind all-time leaders Jason Leonard and Richie McCaw. Only one uncapped player is in the squad with boom rookie Jordan Petaia included in the 31-man group. The 19-year old missed most of the 2019 Vodafone Super Rugby season following a Lisfranc injury but has since recovered to full fitness.

SMH lists Tatafu Polota-Nau, Tom Banks, Joe Powell, Nick Phipps, Luke Jones, Tom Robertson, Pete Samu and Jack Maddocks as the notable misses.
Nick Phipps has been a bit shit for, well, ever really. But it's still a big move to dump him completely when he has been there forever. A good move, but big none the less

I would have gone with both Jack Maddocks and Tom Banks over Haylett Petty and Ashley Cooper - those too just seem a bit long in the tooth these days. Would also like to see Petaia start at centre and O'Connor move to the right.

@booboo Yep. Not sure how many loosehead props I would call "pilar izquirdo" to their face - just too close to "pillar is weirdo / queerdo". Which is also often true.
They didn't want to label Creevy a "Puta" which is fair enough. Quite derogatory and I like him. Great player.
"Ala" would probably work for wing.
I've got nothing for full back...Spanish isn't my fuerte but I do know that a piston wristed gibbon is a Pajero (or medio scum in a lot of cases). -

But it was always reassuring when Phipps took the field against the ABs. It meant the game was already lost for the Wallabies, or was about to be.

It’s a good Aussie squad. 18 that are going to a RWC for the first time but most of those have a few caps under their belt.
