What an amazing piece of scheduling by the AFL to have their Anzac day fixtures include 4 of the bottom 5 clubs, and 1 who is destined to finish with them.

God they flogged them. Big night for Melbourne

Another poor second quarter, injuries. Melbourne played the much better football for the conditions. They look like being a real contender for finals based on this form.

Jesus what has happened to St Kilda? That's appalling

Other 2 games today were actually pretty good but the saints are a hot mess

Entire comp tipped on its head this weekend

Good news? Lions in to the 8

Bad news? Lachie Neale out for 8 weeks.

6-0 start now for the Dees. Good chance this weekend to ease a couple of key forwards back in against North. Barring an unthinkable upset we should be 7-0.

I was reading a story in The Age this morning that said the Dees should soon be 11-0. I think that's just a little too optimistic in this comp, and the Swans especially loom as a challenge in a couple of weeks.

they play the Dogs in R11, so that's an enormous call

Gotta ask questions of a sport that can't even keep track of the ball being in the field of play.

Twice now I've watched goals given when a replay clearly shows the ball completely crossing the boundary line.
Essendon player obviously didn't keep the ball in play and then kicked a goal.
Bemusedly everyone watched the replay showing out of bounds and then watched the resulting centre bounce with the best excuse being "ummm i guess it's too late now"

Not so in the Cats game where the player was off the field being interviewed as the officials finally confirmed a goal - and interrupted a tv interview!

    Strange lapses in reason.

I find there are numerous instances of confusing and/or incorrect calls by the umpires, and half the time the commentators are purely guessing what's happened. It's like it's just an accepted part of the sport that there will be a significant proportion of grey area calls that might be noted at the time by the comms but they're never fully delved into and nor is there a mechanism for reviewing them (possibly because this would take far too long and create far too many stoppages).

Another massive game for the Premiers. Having copped a hiding last week, they now get the form team in the comp. If they get beat again, my confidence that it will all come good at for Richmond at the right time will be dented.

@mariner4life A loss I can cope with. Going to sleep in the second quarter and being flogged on clearances is a different matter.

    Some pretty crazy results today.

Saints win massive against the Hawks. Can’t believe we kicked 19 goals. Probably should’ve been 25 with some of the sitters we missed as well.

Lions made Port look pretty ordinary.

Swans won a thriller against the Cats.

Cher cher the Suns won by 4 goals against the Pies. Pies look slooooowww

@act-crusader good day for Qld footy

Great result for the lions to easily beat a top side without Neale.

@mariner4life Charlie Cameron’s work rate was impressive. He’s been a bit down since the season started but today he was involved in plenty of scoring buildups, plus kicked a few goals himself.

With those two talls in the forward line we need our smalls firing to keep the scoring up. Cameron coming back in to form is perfect

Great comeback win for the Tigers, and without Dusty as well.

The Dees should go to the top today barring an unforgivable upset in Tassie. Such is our current depth, we've dropped Nate Jones and still won't select Sam Weiderman. Ben Brown makes his Dee-but (see what I did there) against his old side and he's been in great nick for Casey recently.

The new rules allow teams to pile on more points when they get that run of momentum

The defending team appears to be more power less to now to Halt that run of momentum,

So while overall it’s been great to have more open footy , I think the amount of one sided blow outs might be a concern if competitive football is also a priority
