Coronavirus - New Zealand

@Tim Bloomfield talked about this last week and the need for increased sentinel testing. Every DHB was supposed to put a plan for this in place. He also spoke to increased testing of the most at risk - international air crew, people at the border and health workers - even if it meant they al got tested, repeatedly.

Is L1 'normal' or is it announced as 'normal' without a Level indicator (ie L zero)
I think it's normal enough to have crowds at the rugby again! Now that IS normal Can't wait to stop talking about BBQ and politics on here, and get back to the game they play in heaven.

Quarterly Economic Update from David Norman, Auckland Council's Chief Economist. Not surprisingly it's ABC (all 'bout COVID)
-
So another day no additonal cases, however a further death, this person was in thier 90s.
-
This is quite an amazing outcome. In 3 months we look to have pretty much eradicated a very contagious virus.
The process has come at a cost but at least we arent in a situation like some other where there is going to be a big risk of a second wave or a continuation of major restrictions.
Prove that we are free of risk within our borders and businesses can have confidence on forging ahead with rebuilding. I reckon that confidence level is one of the keys to recovery.
If Oz can ensure us that the risk of movement is both very low and any new cases can be identified and contained very quickly then we can take another step. Same goes for the island nations.
Hopefully a sensible approach to cross border economic activity is taken. One that balances the need to be tight with pragmatism instead of bereaucracy. If 'outsiders' can show that they will bring money and work here then look for reasons to let them, not to stop them. Bureaucrats need a rev up at the moment.

wow, how amazingly rare...

@mariner4life she had also had COVID been hospitalised, recovered, gone back to the Rest Home she lived in, had two subsequent negative test results and then died.
Family are convinced she is a victim of CV and MoH have agreed to include her in their figures.

More details about the elderly woman who passed away.
We have been asked to provide some comment following the death of Eileen Hunter, a resident from St Margaret’s Hospital & Rest Home. We are providing Eileen’s name following a request to do so by her family. Eileen was in her 90s and passed away on Sunday. She was much loved by those who knew her. Eileen was confirmed as having COVID-19 in mid-April and had been transferred from St Margaret’s to Waitakere hospital and then to North Shore hospital. Once recovered, with two negative test results, she was transferred back to St Margaret’s. The family has asked the Ministry to pass on their thanks for the care of their mother at St Margaret's and at Waitakere and North Shore hospitals. In turn, we extend our sympathy to her family for their loss. It is important to note that Eileen was regarded as having recovered from COVID-19 at the time of her death and COVID-19 is not recorded as the primary cause of her death. After consideration, we have decided to include Eileen's death in our overall tally of COVID-19 related deaths, consistent with our inclusive approach to date. This means the number of COVID-19 related deaths in New Zealand is now 22.

WTF why would they have an "inclusive approach"?! They either had it or they didn't.
-
so wait. You have 8 total active cases. No one in Hospital. Day after day of no new cases.
And the only thing to note is a really old person who died. And she had it once, but recovered, and then died later. But you're still counting it.
Why they fuck aren't you guys fully open?
