Coronavirus - Australia

@dogmeat from memory we’re basically stuck till that batch of 1 million arrives from Pfizer in July. At which point our numbers should (should!) double very quickly. Interestingly I’ve just had a text to book my Covid vax, just have to wait the balance of two weeks from my flu jab on Monday…

@voodoo That chart is BS. Be interesting what date National decided to choose to run it.
I'd guesstimate maybe a week or so back. It's legitimate enough. A more recent update of that data (from a Canadian dude) is here, centre chart:
https://trevortombe.github.io/covidgraphs/oecd
Israel, on that chart (and to be fair, voodoo's) is at a tad over 120 jabs per 100 people.
The antipodeans are off the pace. Not purely due to apathy, as some have suggested, although there is some of that. It is mostly to with slowness and shortage of supply.
Bear in mind the comparison is the OECD, which is heavily membered in Europe. Once the EU overcame their shambolic start, they sourced and rolled out their vaccines quickly. We're still a month or so behind them.

yeah the same thing that saved us in the first place is the same thing slowing everything down. being miles from absolutely everywhere
-
@mariner4life - yeah, also due to having less 'weight' than the big dogs. Having said that, I still give a partial boot up the bum to the Aus government (while leaving enzedders to comment on NZ) for being slightly late to the punch on vaccine purchasing and putting a chunk of, albeit not all, the eggs in one basket.
They bet big on the local Melbourne manufacture of AZ to be the answer, but that only partly paid off. Bad luck perhaps, but we then had to scramble for extra RNA type imports.

Right so I've turned up after thinking the online form was weird in that it asked whether I was aged care or some other type of health worker. No third option.
Turns out this site ONLY does health care people but there was a fuck up with NSW Health's site. I should not have been allowed to apply at this site but stiff shit, I'm here.
They can send the bill to Gladys.

@voodoo I don't dispute the accuracy of the NZ figures at all but the Israeli and Canada ones are clearly BS - Don't trust a politician - especially brandishing a chart.
At this stage NZ is up with the programme they laid out back in March although not everywhere and not for every demographic e.g. the residential hospital my wife is in haven't had their first jab yet - which should have been completed a month ago.
I have to reserve judgement on that basis although I do have concerns about the MoH and govt in generals ability to deliver as promised. Hearing a lot of misgivings about the databases etc but they haven't failed yet. As I said we will now by September.
Based on Bloomfield's comments here I have basically flushed 2022 down the dunny as well. There doesn't seem to be much expectation of any degree of normality until 2023 at the earliest

the flippancy with which you type that out astounds me

Fuck sakes. I put my abbreviated name on the consent form which if course is not allowed 🙄 then trying to fill it out on my phone was a disaster.
So was it NTA? Or Nick the Aussie? You should know that for official forms you have to be Nicholas The Aussie.
As for the charts their really isn't much point in comparing. We are in a completely different situation and because of it will have to wait.

Surely not shortening it to Aussie is unaustralian!
Nicky the Aussie/Ocker surely would have got you to the front of the queue.

@dogmeat - Canada's figures are legit. They are focusing heavily on the first shot.
Numbers are official (near real-time) data from the Canadian provinces - see here:
They're doing ~2.6 million shots a week... Canada's (orange) curve is hammering it (you can see Israel's similar earlier rise, which has now peaked)...
N.B. need to tap and zoom the chart - this particular plot is for the percentage of population with at least one dose of a covid vaccine.
-
@dogmeat -all good. The Chileans have actually legitimately jabbed a lot of arms.
Their potential problem is that 80%+ of their vaccines were the Chinese ones.
Not as effective at preventing coronavirus infection. In saying that, they'd likely still be a pretty good prophylactic against death and severe level of illness.
I don't have a problem with the data showing many countries (including Chile and Mexico) ahead ... because it provides us with a needed kick up the arse.

Anecdotally not BS - if anything finding the 30% of adults not vaccinated is the the hard part. A couple of factors at play:
Toronto has been under some sort of lockdown since early October. Indoor dining has not been allowed since the start of the pandemic. Non-grocery retail hasn't been open in since pre-Christmas. Other areas of the province have had slightly more lax restrictions at times (not much, non-grocery retail has been closed for all but a month province-wide in 2021) - but its' safe to say that everyone is pretty keen to open things up ASAP. Everyone sees a clear relationship between getting the vaccine and things getting back to normal - this doesn't seem to be the case in Aus/NZ (Melbourne perhaps is changing).
The initial roll out was super slow until it ramped up in late March/April, once the under 40s finally got a crack there was no messing about.
Drug stores/pharmacies are ubiquitous in North America (almost every grocery store or Walmart has one too) almost all these are dispensing them plus the large regional centres in arenas/community centres etc. At least at first I know Aussie were mainly rolling it out with GPs only which seems slow as.
Just given the psychology of the country and universal healthcare it doesn't surprise me that 10% or so more Canadians would get the jab than the US.
