Coronavirus - Australia

@mariner4life
I actually have some sympathy for the decisions they've made so far. That's not to say I agree with all of them (haven't been following that closely). They're currently covid free, and it's a while until we hit 80%, so given what's happening in NSW they've got a fairly clear choice between strict border restrictions and a couple of months of restrictions (and probably lockdowns) across SE Qld. So I get the logic.
But WTF do they think is going to be going on in 2022?
Edit: also the Qld vax rates. WTF

Qantas just sent me an email - all subject to govt/regulatory approval etc.
Based on the current vaccination projection rates and the Australian Governmentâs plan for reopening borders, we are preparing for Qantas and Jetstar international flights to resume as follows: ⢠From mid-December 2021, between Australia and Fiji, Singapore, the United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Canada.* ⢠From mid-December 2021, between Australia and New Zealand in line with the anticipated restart of the trans- Ta$man travel bubble.* ⢠From mid-February 2022, between Australia and Hong Kong.* ⢠From April 2022 onwards, between Australia and cities including Bali, Jakarta, Manila, Bangkok, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City and Johannesburg.* This remains dependent on Government decisions in coming months, so weâll keep you updated if the plans change.
Probably still relies on the daughter unit getting the vax and there is no timeline yet for under 16s.

Alan Joyce, you are delusional. By mid-december you'll be lucky to be operating Sydney to Brisbane
And those flights will you are talking about will be empty because no one is going to do 14 days quarantine.

actually might have more chance NSW opening up with Singapore for example than with either Qld and WA

yeah especially when QLD will be crying out for tourism dollars..although i suspect the 12-13 LGAs going no where, but my guess will be others that can prove double vax will get this freedom when we hit those vacc rates

i think the announcement today by the Qld Govt is telling on a number of levels
They are building a big quarantine facility in Toowoomba, 1,000 beds or something. Not expected to be fully on line until March next year.
No, the Feds didn't know about it, they will find out at the press conference like everyone else.So this tells me Qld has no intention of opening up, and they quite frankly couldn't give a solitary fuck what the Feds think about it
loooool at this. Grandstanding at it's absolute pinnacle
So, since this announcement yesterday, turns out the mayor of Toowoomba didn't even know about it. And he's had grave concerns since it was first mooted, most especially around the local hospital's capacity. Questions answered by the Qld Government = 0
Looks like people will have to be bused from Brissie airport. And possibly even to Brissie hospitals.
This isn't a plan, it's a fucking press release.
But they guy no doubt getting paid fuck loads to build it thinks it's an amazing plan.

The company tasked with building it is a Labor donor. I do like how Qld and WA are busy preparing for 2020 by building these facilities. Reminds me of the successful desalination plants...

That's a start. Are they any good?

i for one am just glad we have a bunch of adults leading the nation
The petty border tit-for-tat between NSW and Qld makes them both look stupid, Ana more so today.
God King of the DPRWA is throwing the toys because Alan Joyce is going to take his toys and play somewhere else (hubbing his direct Aus - London planes through Darwin, because, you know, you are allowed in and out of the Territory).
It's just so refreshing to see how fucking maturely everything is being handled.
-
this article is pretty interesting
âThe Doherty modeling appears to be nothing more than manufactured scientific opinion to achieve a political outcome by working the numbers backwards.â
-
@stockcar86 not really surprised seeing as all the leaders who have read it seem to have a different idea of what it says
-
@stockcar86 yeah fucking thanks for that. super. great.
we are all fucked. Pack it in, it's all over. You are never leaving your house again, let alone the State. Maybe your kids will get to leave the Country
ANd if you don't work directly for the Government, find other work.

It almost makes you think maybe we need some sort of national government to lead in times of national emergency

the divide between each of the states and the feds has been pretty eye opening, similar with the Us, makes you really wonder how well these federations actually work
