Lockdown/Covid Check In
-
We are still looking at 2022 before there will be enough vaccine distributed to bring the pandemic under control. It'll go to the vulnerable and frontline workers first and rightly so. However whilst that will protect them and in the case of places like NZ should make incursions across the border rarer it won't protect the wider community. So the new normal is gonna last at least another 18 months. If all goes well.
There are still a couple of question marks over how long immunity might last. I see the Chinese vaccine is running into issues in Brazil. That was rushed so hopefully we won't have those difficulties with pfizer and Moderna's - and whoever else's comes to market.

Have we had a poll on who would have the vaccine yet?
I'd be happy to wait. I'm not averse to vaccines, I've been vaccinated for almost everything I'm likely to come into contact with and even took part in a trial for dengue. It's just there are more needy people than me. Covid-19 is unlikely to present me with much bother.
hadn't really thought about that, good point

@MN5 Was in Wellington for the first time since Feb. Fuck sake. Is anyone even in the office? Streets were deserted.
Nah that's just Welly
Pfffft, not even gonna dignify this with an answer. You loved the capital and you know it.

Sure sign it's a government town.
Back next week. Last Friday was trying to organise appointments. Without exception every client was off that day. WFH - yeah / nah. No one replied to my emails until after nine Monday.
Lazylucky bastardsOther half ( government stooge that she is ) only goes into the office twice a week now and that's only cos of the free HIIT classes. I don't go into my "office" much anymore either. Lambton Quay is damn quiet these days.

I was at my kid's cricket practice at Anderson Park yesterday, finishes at 5. Driving home, rush hour, mentally mapping my route before I set off.. go via Kelburn? avoid The Terrace .... Nah, don't bother.... driving through CBD is no worries these days.
Finding parks on the whole is pretty easy these days as well but the fuckers charge later now.....and on WEEKENDS ?!?!?! time to vent on the Grumpy Old Man thread I think.....

@MN5 yeah it is a nice joint overall. Has changed a lot since we landed there one weekend in 2015 and the place was dead as shit. Sure, it was second weekend in January and every bastard was on holidays I guess...

Absolutely, it goes pretty dead then but livens up late January for the Trentham Cup and Sevens.......aw that's right until the fun police canned it.

home life seems like it's helping a 4 yo with homework constantly,
You are talking about your daughter not your husband aren't you?
It just sounds suspiciously like something my wife would say (and we don't have kids)...

Conversely Sydney feels almost back to normal.

@R-L Be careful, you know what blokes are like with their secretaries 😳

Finally caught up on this thread.
Sorry to hear your news @R.L
-
@MiketheSnow ...come on big Mike there are people far worse off than me!! But thanks.
@Catogrande he can hardly have an affair with his own wife, that's some weird role play stuff I do not have the time for .

Oh treat yourself. Live a little.
I'll lend him my pilot's uniform next if you like?
You might need one of these:

@Snowy uncanny resemblance. Can't be arsed. He doesn't deserve it anyway.
Still trouble at mill. Sorry to here that.
Pretty sure we all picture you like that, just as we are mostly Jamie Dornan lookalikes. I'm just little more mature than him myself.
-
@R-L said in Lockdown Check In:
@Snowy hang on, how old are you?? Were you flying these sort of planes... ![alt text]
Ah no. These (amongst others):
Kind of miss it now that Covid has taken it away rather than just my choice. I retired young (but I started early too) due to not really liking my employers and wanting to get out of Hong Kong (which was a wise move it seems now, both politically and Covid hasn't been great for Airlines).
I probably have a decade on Mr Dornan though. I'm just taller and better looking. Similar beard.

I suspect it's about the uniform.
I could just be a piece of meat (so to speak) - I think. Not that I mind that.
