Ultimate NPC: Round 2 Auckland v Waikato
-
Battle of the Bombays. Arthur Stone isn't playing
-
Kaino, MJ, Zinny - no team beats a team with that loose froward trio.

Yeah, Saturday game so Jones is back.
-
Man on man, 12 and 15 are the only (very debatable) better players for the visitors
-

what? go and have a lie down son
then come back and have a serious word with yourself.
jesus...

i think i'd only go so far as "they'd give it a good go"...."better" is a very strong word

GFY and you lose.
-
It’s why I said “very debatable “
I thinks there’s a good argument at 12.
A good fluffer should be able to come up with an argument at 15
Everyone else is clear cut
-

i doubt that.
-
@Crucial Is Junior that much better than Duggan? Or did he get a very comfortable ride behind an awesome Akl pack?
Neither what you'd call top notch halfbacks. Still Akl by plenty

Scoring strike rate? I suspect DMac wins that one.

Yeah, hadn’t spotted that. Agree.

What happened to David Kirk? Was he in the running for this? RWC winning captain while playing for the 09.

Otago would have first dibs

Did they select him though?

They went for Kelleher. Can’t remember a strong debate about it

Tonu'u and Kellaher over Kirk. I thought we were all crusty old dudes here, apparently I was wrong.
-
No doubt on the result for this one
-
@Nepia IMO Akl have had a number of halfbacks that were better than Tonu'u

Oh who'd you prefer? Devine? Brett Iti?
-
@Nepia Lin Colling for one. Belinda's uncle. Although he played for Otago first as well. Kirk possibly. Gemmell?
-

How much NPC did those guys play?

No one older Kirk would have an impact on a poll of TSFers
-
Colling was around at the start of the NPC Gemmell first played for Akl as 19 yr old straight out of school but was kept out by Colling. When he retired Gemmel took over but had his career ended by concussion issues
-
@Duluth you'd think so but look at the Manawatu side
-
i think we assumed Kirk would get picked for Auckland and had already settled on Byron before clicking on first team gets dibs rule...and then never readdressed
-
I heard of Colling, but not Gemmell.
I think Tonu'u fits best with this Auckland team, Devine or Kirk would go well too
-
@dogmeat said in Ultimate NPC: Round 2 Auckland v Waikato:

..and look at every other side. The players skew towards a particular time period. Manawatu is an exception because they did not do well during that time
-
@taniwharugby I'm happy for them to have picked Tonu'u

Yep. Good teams beget. Manawatu are are a scatter gun. Great players over many years.
Crusaders for years as a team and hopefully the Blues now.
Good players get even better when they play together.
-
Shit, Waikato survives the 1st round.
I am sure Auckland will win the voting convincingly but the majority of this Waikato team have tasted success at Eden Park. Some of them numerous times.
-

Tonu'u is one of those players who was pretty limited, but did what he did really well. Strong passer is all you need with that pack and that backline.
Tuitupou was a reminder to me that size is not the same as physicality. What a player.

I'm a huge DMac fanboi but that is a terrible call.
-
Would have been fun to watch that Waikato midfield with both players in their prime.
