-
I was hoping for a change in the loose forward mix
Trainor has been making too many errors. So Sullivan doesn't have to do much to be an improvement.
I wonder if Trainor was injured or dropped? Alama has been slow to make changes. -
Yeah, big game for Sullivan. I thought Rayasi would start at FB and Telea would be at wing.
I wouldn't of been mad if Telea got the start at centre considering how bad Manu was on defense last week.
-
Tele'a should be starting 13. Isn't Manu off overseas at the end of this season?
-
@KiwiMurph About Manu, yes, he's off to Pau.

Tough start though, with L3 meaning no training in Auckland during the preseason
-
Confirmed Trainor is injured.
I forgot he pulled his hamstring running support for AJ Lam's intercept try.

From the Auckland website:
Auckland will face top of the table, Tasman, at Eden Park on Saturday. Head Coach, Alama Ieremia has made three changes to the team that came back from 18 points down to stun Taranaki in Inglewood on Saturday afternoon. Varsity Halfback, Jonathan Ruru comes back into the starting lineup after injecting his energy off the bench in the Round 5 fixture against Taranaki. 2020 debutant, Zarn Sullivan will get his first start of the season at Fullback in place of Jordan Trainor who is unavailable due to a Hamstring Strain in the last round. Marist Hooker, Mike Sosene-Feagai returns to the bench for Soane Vikena who made his debut in the 16 Jersey last Saturday. This Saturdayβs game will be the first time Aucklanders will be allowed into Eden Park to watch their team play in the domestic competition. Ieremia and his Auckland side are relishing the opportunity to play at home in front of their fans. βItβs an Exciting weekend in Auckland with both us and the Auckland Storm being given the opportunity to play in front of our family and community. We are really looking forward to putting on a good performance against a championship Tasman team.β Auckland Rugby is focused on building a stronger whanau through sport and are also offering free entry for all NZ Warriors members to attend the top of the table clash at Eden Park this weekend. Ieremia is stoked to be part of supporting our cross-town mates. βWe really feel for the Warriors fans this year. Their team did them and our whole nation proud across the ditch this year in really trying circumstances. It will be great to have them all in their supporters kit bringing a flavour of the Warriors to support us clash at Eden Park.β

βThe Herald understands young utility back Will Jordan was supposed to be released, along with wing Sevu Reece and prop Tyrel Lomax, to join Tasman for their Mitre 10 Cup match against Auckland at Eden Park on Saturday.β
-
@ACT-Crusader So last week it was Nepo falling on his sword in a vain effort to thwart Tasman and this week it's George Bridge!
It's a desperate measure, George!
-
@Chris-B this Auckland team is no great shakes. Tasman to win comfortably.
-
@KiwiMurph I sincerely hope you're not lying to me!
Bloody Auckland - never to be trusted!
-
@Chris-B He's not wrong. We've been poor this year, despite winning 4 out of 5.
-
@African-Monkey Yeah - but, you guys had been rubbish coming into last year's semi- as well!
-
@Chris-B Hodgman, Papali'i and Clarke were in that team....
-
I've only seen tidbits of Adams, but he's looked bloody good when I have seen him. Not fit enough to start or not strong enough in the scrum?
-
1 Isileli Tuungafasi, 2 Andrew Makalio, 3 Tyrell Lomax, 4 Alex Ainley, 5 Te Ahiwaru Cirikidaveta ,6 Jacob Norris 7 Sione Talitu Havili, 8 Hugh Renton, 9 Finlay Christie, 10 Mitchell Hunt, 11 Leicester Faingaanuku, 12 Alex Nankivell, 13 Kieron Fonotia, 14 Mark Telea, 15 David Havili
Reserves: 16 Quentin MacDonald, 17 Ryan Coxon, 18 Samuel Matenga, 19 Isaac Ross, 20 Braden Stewart, 21 Louie Chapman, 22 Fetuli Paea, 23 Sevu Reece
-
That Tasman side is bloody strong - with the exception of Fonotia.
-
@KiwiMurph Not sure I'd pick Kieron as my weakest link - but, it's interesting that they've seemingly preferred him to Fetuli Paea. Last year Fetuli was awesome coming off the bench, but he doesn't seem to have reproduced that form so far as a starter.
I guess we'll see how KF has come back from his stint overseas.
Forward pack looks significantly better with Lomax back at tighthead.
Interesting that they're only giving Sevu a run from the bench - continuity or instructions from above?
-
Just tipped Tasman by 9 to 16. I feel disgusted.
-
Why does Tasman get guys released from the ABs to play but no-one else?

incoming @Chris-B rant about Joe Moody/Hansen 2018 Mitre 10 Cup semi

Because they will never be allowed a shield challenge?

Akira Ioane is a critical piece to the All Blacks pre-match routine π

Faingaanuku couldβve played at centre with either Paea or Reece starting on the wing. My views on Fonotia are well traversed on here
-
@Tim You should see how much money I've insurance betted on Harbour to win the whole thing!

A travesty of the highest order!
Edit: I warned y'all that karma would come back to bite those cheating keyhunts on the arse!
-
@Chris-B Hansen tried to kneecap Auckland that year too - took Papalii out of the semis/final for ABs duty (despite not being picked in the ABs matchday 23) - nearly worked too but a final for the ages delivered justice in the end!
-
@KiwiMurph We could have added a title and another seven wins to our unbeaten streak but for that piece of "divine intervention".
-
@Chris-B pfft Auckland would have spanked you in the final just like they did in the round robin that year :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_closed_eyes:
-
@KiwiMurph We had taken "learnings" from that match.
Fuck it -it still annoys me.
If it wasn't for covid, I'd jump on a plane to Sydney just to spit at his horse!

A lot of fake news on the Fern today...
-
@Chris-B I think the best part of that match was watching most of the Auckland team jump on David Havili after the best 6/8 in the country Akira Ioane scored the most wonderful solo try to seal the game
-
@ACT-Crusader Showing his versatility which is good to see......
-
@African-Monkey I mainly remember fucking Patrick Tuipolotu playing like he better fucking play on Sunday!
And the game turning on Finlay Christie getting penalized - the last time in living memory that any halfback was penalized - for not quickly using it when he was told to!
-
@Chris-B Remember it well. It was the correct call, otherwise we'd still be waiting for him to use it at this current time......
-

Heβll be running water soon.
I guess Akira is a pre game hammy away from being in the 23.
-
@ACT-Crusader Akira playing a test? Lol don't be silly......
-
Much better start by us this week.
-
Really like what i'm seeing from Sullivan so far.
