@steven-harris Ta$man should have just knocked the ball on and taken the advantage.
Exactly. A penalty in front was an 8 pt lead. Game over.
The injury ward will be huge after this game.

Got my game time wrong, so only saw the final 20 minutes.
Maybe I should stop watching - because seemingly, Ta$man was going alright up till then.
But, I tuned in to see the coaches had already almost emptied the bench. Us play about 1000 phases in the Wellington 22 without really getting close to scoring.
Grooby's kicks....
Us be 5 points up with 90 seconds to play (in a knock out match) and get a penalty in front of the sticks, but did anyone have the nous to just drop the ball and take the penalty and the game.
Thankfully JGB!!!
Poor old Mako shark. Probably someone should have put it out of its misery.

Canterbury hold the tie breaker over Ta$man so will finish 3rd with a BP win. BOP need a BP win to finish above Ta$man.
Canterbury notably having had an extra game to accumulate their points. But, NZ Rugby won't worry about trivialities like that.
If, by some miracle we should manage to tip over those Hawkes Bay bastards and end up playing a final in ChCh, I shall return to this theme.

I feel for you 😎

@bovidae It would have - but, it would be nice if, occasionally, the people who get paid quite a lot of money to organize these competitions could actually demonstrate some vague appreciation of fairness.
NZ Rugby has a long history of organizing unfair and unbalanced competitions. I don't think they've been involved in a balanced competition since Super 14 bit the dust.
But, then you look at the draw for this ICC T20 competition. And how the ODI World Cup ended.
Who organizes these things?
How can they be so inept?

Oh, I fully agree with you.
I am assuming that the difference in the number of games played is due to whether a team played one of NH, Auckland or CM before the covid break, or were scheduled to play them after. Ta$man, for example, played Auckland but missed out in playing both CM and NH, who you were scheduled to play in Rds 3 and 4. Waikato wasn't playing CM so had another competition game, as did Canterbury (they were only to play CM and not NH). The caveat in this is that every game Waikato has played since the resumption of the NPC has been an away game.
NZR needs to provide Sky a product, hence these meaningless non-competition games. Personally, once the decision was made to not have promotion-relegation I would have just had a final between Hawke's Bay and Taranaki and finished the NPC there. But, Sky will be wanting those additional 4 SFs as part of their broadcasting agreement.

Your invitational XV has benefitted from this for at least the last 5 years, now, one covid interrupted season later and you're joining the rest of us on the ramparts. Welcome.
