Otago 2022
-
good start, a little surprised with Ioane
-
@kiwiwomble Ioane has said he enjoys playing for Otago, and will be able to play 1st 5.
-
@bovidae ya don’t say…I had no idea
-
@kiwiwomble yeah I'm surprised too. Was low-key hoping Waikato or BOP jumped in.

@macmanus surely McDowall will re-sign?
-
@macmanus the big marn Saula Ma'u is finally injury free so he'll be in the squad
-
@fakatavafuture sure
-
@shark he’ll return from Boston in July
-
Otago has re-signed Ray Nu'u (one year), Thomas Umaga-Jensen (two years), Jermaine Ainsley (two years), Saula Ma'u (three years). All top quality who will add a lot to the campaign.
-
TUJ….will prob get an AB call up and not play
-
@Kiwiwomble But ... you'll get red-card Nu'u!

I’m use to sio…it’s almost a tradition to have a card magnet in midfield
-
@Kiwiwomble would be awesome if he made the all blacks, he's a much better player than Ennor in my opinion, happy with Otagos proping stocks
-
George Bell ?
-
-
all pretty cool, interesting these guys with "pedigree" are at johnnies rather than OB's or Kings, hopefully some guys to look out for in the future
no idea Foster was still knocking out dunners
-
@Kiwiwomble gawd Joseph's son is the spitting image, wouldn't know the fella on the left was Maugers kid if it didn't say tho
-
-
@macmanus I wonder why Ajay Faleafaga hasn't made it. Have they just left out all the Highlanders U20 players? Pretty cool to see John Lesie's son in there.
-
@SouthernMann I think so, also Finn Hurley, Holland or Wingham. Holland obviously will be part of Otago squad.

Gilbert -
I would be expecting Gilbert to be in the 10 group, especially as a starting Super Rugby 10. Freedom also available in the outside backs. I reckon Faleafaga and Asi will likely be in the outside back group, as well as Finn Hurley too.
We have some really good props available.
-
Speaking of outside backs, where is Jermaine Pepe at now regarding making the main squad?

yeah, a bit uncertain about Vahaakolo, he put that weird post up last week
-
I see it. Certainly looks like he is calling time on his career.
-
@SouthernMann which is sad, seemed like a good bloke when i met him in melbourne the other week and would honestly be a better option than gregory
-
-
@macmanus Blimey, just two players from University. What's going on down there that things have dropped away that drastically from the days when the students dominated the rep squads?
-
@macmanus Interesting. Al Momoisea (a Napier Boys' old boy) was still playing for Napier Pirates earlier in the club season. He must have moved to Otago in May. He played for the Hawke's Bay U19 team at the Jock Hobbs Memorial U19 tournament in 2017, so I assume he's been in our academy.
-
@Higgins Sean Withy, Ricky Jackson, Josh Timu also Josh Hill (all SP Players and Otago) are from Varsity. Pepe, Asi, Stodart, McClea and Aaron Withy have a great potential. Henry Bell and Harry Press left University.
-
@macmanus I was referring to the High Performance Training Squad you posted when mentioning the two University players.

...and i think he's saying the top uni players are already above this level and still with the super squad, so the actual otago squad will still have loads of uni players
-
-
@macmanus oh, any idea why?
-
Pretty sure that high performance team didn't include any Highlanders U20 players either. There were five Uni players in there, plus one with the Canes. Uni is likely to provide Ricky Jackson, Josh Dickson, Josh Hill, Sean Withy, Josh Timu, Thomas Umaga-Jensen and potentially Will Stodart and Jeremiah Asi. Not living down there I'm not 100% sure on players.
-
How is that hot shot 1st Five from Auckland schools rugby going?
-
@Tim played at 12 for Highlanders U20s. Grew into his game quite well over the tournament. I expect they will pick him in the provincial squad. The reports I've read say he has been playing with a bit of time and running his cutters well for the mighty Dunedin Sharks.
