Crazy start to the AGP with three cars crashed out in the first lap, including Carlos Sainz and son of Aussie legend Jack Doohan. Lawson will want the conditions to stay a little rough for a wee bit longer to try and give him a chance to jump some places.
Already Verstappen looks at home in sub optimal conditions jumping Piastri into P2

Just as the track dried a bit and most cars changed to slick tires , rain is coming. This could get crazy. Liam on medium tires should chance his arm and stay out. As I type, Piastri has spun into the grass and Max leads as Norris pits. LL has leapfrogged to 7th as a number of cars pit to get rain tires on

Lawson and a bunch of other drivers crashed out on medium tires in the rain, Piastri and the Ferraris at the tail of the field.

We have a 6 lap shootout and the rain has stopped. Typical Melbourne day

Even with a quarter of the field out, top ten isn't really the tail.

Typing as I watch. Piastri at the tail. Ferraris were leading and the gamble to run on slicks seemed to be paying off until they were forced to pit and change tires

    New meaning to "savage".

    Tom Parsons  /  Mar 15  /  F1

Zak Brown savages F1 driver and tells him he's not good enough for current seat

Zak Brown savages F1 driver and tells him he's not good enough for current seat

McLaren boss Zak Brown has told an F1 driver he shouldn't have been handed his current seat.

Sounds like he's shit stirring. It was clear they used Lawson to test stuff for Max. His car was slow due to a rear wing among other things, and mechanical problems robbed him of valuable practice time on an unfamiliar track. He set the second fastest lap time of the race, and at the end he crashed because they left him out in the rain with slicks on, a fate suffered by other drivers. Hopefully they get his package sorted sooner than later and he can give it a decent crsck

Unlike other teams such as McLaren, where the two drivers are relatively even and pitted against each other, RB is built for Max, and the second driver must be a good teammate and support him, much like a domestique would in the Tour de France. I am sure once they sort Max's car out they will turn their attention to Liam and he will get a more competitive package

Given they selected Lawson after testing, it seems more likely to me that the car isn't as good/ benign/ balanced as other teams. It's just suits Max and /or you need his level of skill to make it competitive.

Might explain why so many of Max's team mates struggled to keep their cars on the road too

Why? There is zero difference between Max and him. 2 + 0 = 20

Lawson absolutely has to get out of Q1. He's had more time in the car and track now after the sprint race.

He had a decent run in the sprint, jumped 6 places. Hopefully it will be a good foundation for him to do well in quali later

Yeah he was stuck in a DRS train behind Alonso but overtaking Sauber and Haas vehicles shouldn't be considered an achievement.

Hopefully it will be a good foundation for him to do well in quali later

    Fingers crossed.

5 places, but probably overtook more cars than anyone else? Even Norris struggled to overtake and Anotonelli sat within DRS range of Tsunoda for seemingly the whole race without getting past.
