The Chiefs are likely to name a settled side on Thursday but not have Brodie Retallick available this week after his broken thumb.
All Blacks halfback Brad Weber and one-test playmaker Josh Ioane are poised to return for Sunday’s clash with the Rebels in Melbourne after respective neck and rib injuries.

That is pretty positive. Hope Laghlan McWhannell might be back asap too. Any update there?

@ARHS I haven't heard/read anything about McWhannell. He had a concussion so they'll take their time with his return. Maybe he returns via club rugby.

So with the news on the injured players I don't expect any changes in the forwards.

The best backline then would be:
              Weber
              Ioane
              ENS
              Tupaea
              Nankivell
              Lowe
Narawa (I wouldn't mind Reihana given an opportunity)

@Bovidae do you think the chiefs will soon settle on a fullback for the remainder of the season?

                  Who knows.

They haven't listened to me yet and selected Stevenson (when fit). 😉 He ticks all of the boxes you need for a fullback.

So I'm an idiot. I'm heading down to Melbourne for work Monday morning. If I'd checked the schedule I would have known this game was on and could have gone down a day earlier.

Could have been a good weekend of watching as I'm going to MP v Drua this weekend.

<Groan> Again, I really have to question some of McMillan's selections.

I assume that Vaa'i will be on his AB rest.

I find it very funny how some players get a million chances (Trask) and others get hardly any.

@Bovidae can't get the preference for Trask over Reihana at 15. Trask is more of a 10 anyway.

Reihana at least has more size to diffuse high kicks. McMillan seems to like selecting his Rotorua homie.

Reihana had that brief cameo when Gatland went to get stitched up and made a very quick impression.
From an outside observer it does seem funny that he hasn’t had a decent chance.
Apart from that I’m ok with the team. Not our number one selection but a good team for the Rebels

That logic works well for me. So many injuries creating so many chances for player development.
