    @Tim Haha he's a shocker.

Having said that - very nice Southland try.

@Mattasaurus don't know the two pools off by heart but southland are ahead of Taranaki & Manawatu

@Mattasaurus Amazing effort from the Stags ..given the super experience in the Ak team ..there should not be 2 points between these 2 teams
Says everything about the quality of the respective coaches

Uninspiring from Auckland but understandable as it is storm week and going down to Invercargill can be tricky.

Agree that the ref made some bizarre calls out there, but we did look a bit flat out there at the same time.

Good effort from the boys from the deep south. Could be looking at a qf spot if they keep this form up.

Missed the 1st half because my alarm didn't wake me up. 2nd half didn't look too pretty.

A bit worried that we've hung onto Alama too long.

@African-Monkey said in Southland v Auckland:

@Mattasaurus They're still in this game, could still take it and yes, they look good so far. Their first win won't be too far away.

When is their match against Wellington?

@FakatavaAllBlack Thanks, so Southland's first win is just about three weeks away.

Two surprises for me in this game:

    1. How poorly Auckland played.
    2. How well the Stags played.

Some thoughts after watching the full game.

Setpiece was a mixed bag. Scrum was dominate at times, but we also got penalized a few times. Lineout was a bit off, especially late in the game.

Discipline wasn't great with 18 penalties. Many of those were offside penalties.

Defense is a work in progress. Line speed is good but we got exposed a few times out wide.

I thought Funaki and Plummer were good and controlled things well. Lovely kick by Funaki to set us up in good field position for our 2nd try.

Choat was the pick of the forwards. Busy as always and was very good on defense.

Vest definitely stands out, but for the wrong reasons. He plays rugby like he's new to the game. I'd relegate him to 4th lock and promote Kalapu into the 23.

I don't think we need Hickey on the bench if we have Plummer and Sullivan in the starting line-up. Just select a midfielder and outside back on the bench.

Match stats are interesting. Pretty similar in most areas. A 1 point difference seems fair.
