@Canes4life Ardie definitely plying his trade in Auckland next year.

What’s your source? If he leaves he leaves, I’d just be interested to know where this is coming from. No inkling whatsoever in the media about it.

Apparently Cam Roigard was definitely going back to Chiefs territory last year and that didn’t happen so I’ll believe it when I see it.

If he goes to MP, I can deal with that. Auckland though, yuck.

It would eb a foolish move by Ardie though as he would be leaving excellent gym facilities. And leaving a potential winning team

Esp as he will be 31 next year.

Would be great for super rugby if RM came back from Japan and laced up for MP and joined him.

And his last memory as a Cane will be a disallowed try against the Brumbies.

If he doesn’t want to be at the Canes so be it. We’ve got plenty of talent in the loose.

The irony is if he wants to build his brand in Auckland then why would you sign for the worst team in the comp? You might aswell go and play league for the Warriors, that will build massive hype.

@Chris I’m sure it’s true, I’m actually not too pissed off about it tbh. I feel like the Canes as a collective played better this year not having to rely on Ardie so much.

At the end of the day if he goes then he goes. If his reason for leaving is because his brother was sacked by the Canes then it would be a little harder to stomach.

Yeah you have a lot of depth in the loose forwards, It probably means they develop better with longer careers left than Ardie has.
I wouldn’t be pissed either if I was a canes fan.

Auckland-bound? Ardie Savea set for bombshell Super Rugby move

The All Blacks vice-captain is on the verge of a bombshell move.

All parties remain tight-lipped at this delicate stage but multiple sources have indicated to the Herald

It's mentioned in two threads, therefore, multiple

Or could it be a case that this is his opportunity to give back to Samoan rugby. To inspire young Samoan kids and help solidify the future of Moana Pasifikia in Super Rugby. He may never get to play for the Samoan national side, and doing this is the next best thing. That he knows the Canes are in safe hands, and as one of the most high profile Samoan rugby players in the world that this is his way to help.

@Machpants It really wouldn't surprise me if Ardie Savea eventually moves to Moana Pacifika, but I suspect he wants to win a title with the Canes first.

It would be an historical moment for SR when a current high profile AB wasn't playing for one of the 5 NZ teams. However, I would feel bad for Inisi, who was one of MP's best this season.

NZR said when MP were formed ABs could play for them without losing eligibility.
If it did turn out to be true as a Canes man I reasonably relaxed , good fo MP, and we got cover at Canes.

Yeah I don't have a problem with it., Canes certainly have cover.

I forgot that, but yes I remember they were allowed 3 players, I think? As long as NZR aren't paying his wages when there. His game will go down hill imo, see the difference a season in Japan has made, with a poor team and resources (esp compared to new canes set up). I think he'll go the way of his bro, signed to NZ for a long time, not necessarily playing for ABs. Certainly will help MP, esp money and media's,but one Galactico does not make a team.

He already won a title with the Canes, (I'm pretty sure he was playing when they finally did it)

I'd rather he move to the Blues than the Moana. He'd be taking up space for potential Samoan/Tongan players.

@taniwharugby Yes they hold their license.

@mimic don't agree. Moana are allowed 3 non eligible pacific players in their team, so why not use him? The young Samoan and Tongan internationals could also learn a thing or 2 from him, so I only see it as a win for them.
