The Hurricanes have already achieved far more this season than I expected and I am massively proud of the squad, but losing a final where they are firm favourites would be a massive choke. I have loved the way the Lions have played in recent weeks and have a sneaky suspicion they might pull off an upset. Or perhaps Julian Savea will gain redemption by scoring the winning try. It's going to be a long week and a longer 80 minutes.

It had more to do with the mid season revolt from the team and letting them play their natural game rather than what Mourie and Rennie wanted.

He should go back and coach NPC - someone other than the Mako$ needs to stop the Christchurch team winning.

Midfield defence is the key for me. If they can contain the lion's there they should be okay.

Really hoping that Vaea and Fatiaolofa dominate as they have. will really give the loosies and backs good front football to guarantee a win

Just watched the last minutes of the 2000 final. With a better ref the Lions would have had half their team in the bin!

Not the best of mornings in UH. Still raining here after heaps of rain overnight.

Have cranked up the fire and will probably have it going most of the day.

Won't be at game tonight, sitting at home in a warm lounge with a few beers seems like the way to go.

Go the Hurricanes! Even better with Upper Hutt players on both wings.

One ominous portent is that - up until last year when the Crusaders didn't make the play-offs - every year of Toddy's lengthy reign, his team was knocked out, playing away from home, by the eventual champions.

Last year he did his best to keep the record by thumping the Canes but losing to the Landers in the round robin.

I hope the Lions slept well after that flurry of calls I made to their rooms at 3pm this morning... 😉
