Canes vs Lions

  • Pity Gardiner isn't reffing. At the very least he is neutral whereas Jackson is a kiwi. Not accusing Jackson of anything but it's the principle. Gardiner is better though IMO although he bottled the Vito YC.

  • It's up to Jacko to deliver the get square after Peyper's blind man reffing performance last weekend 😉

  • Jackson. Notorius homer* and a kiwi. I can see the facebook pages and arm bands already as a couple of hometown decisions cost the Lions.
(* - "homer" not "homo": there's a thread for that...)

  • TAB - head to head: Canes $1.35, Lions $3.15

That's a very good option for the Lions!

... except no one has won a final after travelling between Australasia and SA,

only the Crusaders won out of their home country.

Reality is the Lions are up against it.  Sending a B team to Arg could just cost them the comp - and it rests on the coach's decision.

  • still, for canes fans could be decent insurance, just in case!

  • We need all the help we can get!!

A bigger concern is that he is fantastically average referee.  I really don't know why he keeps getting test matches and big games.  I think SANZAR/world rugby love the story of a retired pro reffing, but I don't see it.

  • Gardiner obviously being punished for not rightfully carding a dirty Canes player in the first half of the match last week.

But seriously, how is Jackson rated ahead of Gardiner. Sanzar are just thick as pig shit sometimes - it's a final, employ a neutral ref, especially when the neutral guy is the best guy available.

  • Canes CEO Avan Lee has personally called scalpers telling them to pull their tickets offline or he will cancel them.

  • I loathe scalpers so this is a good thing but still a half-measure.  These people could still sell them privately outside of TM - it happens all the time.

  • Good to see Julian on the bench - I thought Mckendry's piece that Julian must start was rubbish.

  • Got my tickets last night.
Oh how I mocked mrs Jegga when she told me we should get a season pass because they included finals tickets. She appears to have forgotten the conversation, hope it stays that way.

I've been as laid back as a Southern European labourer up to now, but I'll lose my shit if the Canes screw this up. It's an astonishing achievement to get this far and the coaches and players deserve complements galore but it will be hard to swallow another home lose, this time to a South African team and one that has a Super record that makes the Canes look like the Saders on steroids. This will be like the 2011 RWC for me. I'll pace up and down the TV room with a squeaky bum for 80 odd minutes and pray that this is our year.

    Please please please.

  • Coles reckons he's an 80% chance of playing.

Enjoy the game mate, I had tickets available to me but have to pull a weekend shift at work on Sunday.  Spewing.

I'm trying very hard to keep things on the down low.  But you are right, if we choke this we will never have a better chance to win.  Re-Coles I am sure he will rule himself out if he is not right and I am confident Riccitelli can do the business based on how he put himself about last Saturday

You realise the game is on Saturday? 😉

  • You realise the game is on Saturday? ;)Yup, gotta fly home though... 😞

Sorry to hear that, will you be able to watch the game at all?

Paremata, trying to avoid the hype so can't tell you to be honest.

  • Paremata, trying to avoid the hype so can't tell you to be honest.I hope we get out to a flyer and keep on going. When I went to the RWC 11 final it was so tight I couldn't enjoy it. Hopefully we are ahead in the final 15 or 20 by enough to be able to bask in a win. But if it has to be tight to the end, as long as we win so be it

  • i'll be pretty stoked if the canes win, but for it to be perfect someone will also have to shove that little cheating halfback's blonde head up his arse.

  • The Lions winning would be history

The Lions finally winning a rugby title in Wellington this millennium would be history.

In other news - apparently Alanis Morrisette has tickets..... 🙂

I remember like it was yesterday the brave and heroic Lions travelling down to Canterbury and taking out the NPC final against all odds. I've been clinging on to that memory for a long time now...

That was a superb game , Norm playing with a broken arm , Jonah swatting off Vunibaka twice to score a try.
It just occurred to me two of that team are dead already .

  •
Jesus - look at the brains trust in that Canterbury team - future super coaches Toddy, Razor, Hammer, Gibbo - star commentators Marshy and Mehrts - how did we lose?

    Jonah!

Dave Hewett and Mat Sexton on the bench. Is Aaron Mauger playing second five?

    Former AB captain Reuben Thorne.

25 ABs started in that final. We will never see that sort of thing again
