How did he get the job anyway? What are his credentials other than playing for an average Auckland team for a year and a day?

Assistant coach with Auckland for 4 years and the Blues Development XV coach for 3 years - I'd say that's a fairly decent amount of experience in this day and age.

I'm actually quite glad we played Canterbury last night just to get them out of the way. We looked like we had literally just met each other 5 mins before kickoff and I honestly felt that we would have lost to anyone we played. The Northland match I feel will tell us a lot more as to where our season is heading. Waste of money going last night haha.

Canterbury looked fucking slick.

Ta$man has them next and I'm not optimistic - unless we get Hames and Halanukonuka back and have a match of 80 scrums.

Our lineout guys may have to take chairs to stand on if we're going to compete.

What's Feeney up to?

Our chemistry and adaptation to the new laws was about a 1/10. Despite the talent we have, we still have a lot of new combinations that might take a bit of time to work out. I think we have a handy enough schedule over the next couple of games to get use to each other and the new laws.

I thought Collier flashed some potential, but will need to work on the defense.

Seu was a bright spot in the forwards.

The scrum was not as bad as I thought it'd be.

The true 7 is still important despite the new laws. You still need the 7s fitness and speed around the park. Under these new rules, you can be defending for long periods, so having 3 guys who are 110kg or more in the backrow is not ideal.

Well it looks like we've lost Rieko Ioane this week to the ABs. Fosita to 12 with Aso pushing out 1 and Ravouvou or Fonoti to come onto the bench would be my guess for the Northland game???

To be honest I don't actually think this Auckland team has a problem with talent - there was absolutely plenty of talent on that field last night - give or take pretty close to the team which went within a hair of winning the comp last year - they just looked horrendously coached.

Yeah - I'll be surprised if Auckland don't make the play-offs.

Moala and Piutau are big losses for you, though - to a lesser extent Bryce Heem and Ben Lam.

Those big, fast outside backs caused havoc last year - especially George.

Was impressed with how well our backline clicked given the relative inexperience of the combinations.

Bird and Barrett were good in the forwards and everyone just seemed to do their job at a high level.

This photo on BB's instagram will give you an idea of how tall the Barrett brothers are: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

Dagg (186cm)

Beauden (187cm)

Jordie (194cm)

Scott (197cm)

Jordie might look slight now, but he plays a robust style of game. Most websites say he's currently at 94 kgs. It will be interesting to see how much he fills out given he's still only 19.

So he is 19 and Goodhue is 21?

Plenty of time for them to form a partnership in the mid-field (although if what I hear is true, it will only be Super rugby and maybe ABs)

Yes, that's for sure but this does not explain the missed tackles from Ioane.

Maybe the fact he only arrived back in the country last week from Rio and hadn't played a game of 15s since April might have something to do with it...

Goodhue had practically everything stacked in his favors. Great front foot ball, better players inside him, more time training with the team, and he has been able to focus solely on 15s, whereas Rieko had been out of 15s for a few months.
