Silent Hill ( staying up til dawn drinking and playing on more than one occasion trying to solve stupid puzzles in the latter two )
One of the best games I've ever played. Scary as fuck, even when you're just walking down that fucking long tunnel under the lake, waiting for something to happen.
Japanese people are fucked up.
Yep, Some of the bad creatures were really weird. The nurses looked hot though.

Alex the Kid on my sega master system!
Prior to that, we had some friends that moved back from Aus with a flash as colecovision, it was the nuts!

Haha my boys found a version of that online. Great fun.
Crash Bandicoot was cool too.

Leisure Suit Larry
An absolute classic. I remember finally cracking the questions at the start to prove I was an adult, so exciting.
Some games I thrashed back in the day...
Mario Brothers 1 and 3 on the original Nintendo.
Brian Lara Cricket 96 on the Sega Mega Drive - that was a brilliant game.
Diablo 1 on Playstation 1 - wasted many hours of my life on that
Resident Evil 1 on Playstation 1 - as others have said that was scary as fuck...
Tekken 1 on Playstation 1 - used to go Jun every time, worked out a never-ending combo that meant if the other player went to ground they couldn't get up again, used to frustrate the hell out of everyone.
Quake 1 online, in the days of dial up. There was a pretty awesome online community back in the day, some epic battles.Ahhh the good old days of gaming, I wish I had time to do any of that shit nowadays.

When I was first going out with Mrs TA, that was our Saturday morning... Which is to say she would sit there and watch while my flatmate and I played it for hours.
The first day was spent loading up, after we figured out how to cheat or way to awesomeness by importing and exporting characters loaded with potions to permanently increase abilities.
-
@NTA haha yeah we figured out the elixir cheat, max out all stats. Wasn't nearly as bad as the PC version of the game though, where every man and his dog had all the best gears from the word go through duping...

Farpoint (PS4 VR) and the aim controller arrived today.. only played 15mins so far
The game is generic and unimaginative but the controller is great
Playing a 1st person shooter in VR while holding a gun has massive potential. Can lean around corners, aim using the sights on the weapon and even point the gun around a corner and shoot blind

Thread reboot ... any of you guys seen 'they are billions? An rts where you build up a town to survive zombie attacks. It's only in beta at the mo. But lots of folks streaming it on twitch, it's pretty cool! Oh, and it's got a killer learning curve, makes for fun viewing

Well since this thread has been rebooted I shall share an experience I had last week.
After talking about it for nearly a year I finally made enough mates here to fill out an 8 man team roster to give Zero latency in North Melbourne a visit:
Absolutely freaking awesome. Only a couple of us had gaming backgrounds but all of us loved it and very keen to do it again soon.
You're in a large warehouse wearing a VR mask, headset, backpack and gun complete with motion-sensors but in the came you see digital representations of your team mates and a fantasy world, be it a space craft overtaken with monsters or in some sort of present day fortifications under attack from zombies.
The sensors are pretty good and warn you if you're about to back into a team mate or walk into an actual wall, the world feels much larger than the physical size of the warehouse, they clearly do some clever things to make you walk around in circles in real life to give the illusion of a larger battlefield.
You build up a sweat and my right arm was killing me by the end with the pump action shotgun my weapon of choice..possibly also due to a PT session the previous night. Anyway, highly recommend, in Melbourne and Brisbane as well as a few locations around the world.

So after many, many years I made a snap decision this week to pick up a PS4 Pro and get back into gaming. I've been out of the game (pun) for so long I really wouldn't know where to start with what the best games are. I know a few of you guys play games so wondering if there's any advice you can give on which games are actually good, and which are a waste of (my fairly limited) time.
I picked up three games with the console - Fifa 18 as the wife wanted that, Jurrasic World Evolution as that could be fun to play with the boy, and Rugby 18 as fuck I wanted a rugby game.
Tried Rugby 18 last night and... it was objectively pretty fucking shit despite giving it a real good go. It honestly seems to me to be a big step down from Lomu Rugby which was released in fucking '97 - have rugby games really gone nowhere since then?!
The other two I'm yet to play but will give them a go in the weekend.

Fortnite is the hot 1st person shooter, based off the earlier game player unknown battle grounds (PUBG). kind of depends if you want to play shooters or sport or rpg type games. Then you're got co-op options or free for alls. No end of options these days!! I prefer strategy and rpg ones, Destiny is cool imo. I'd just Google for top 10s in the genres you like and give em a hoon

Fucking Fortnite...constant source of issues trying to get TR Jnr off that fucking game!
Apparently is good to know someone else playing too, my brother just started playing and tried to 'join a group' and he said they were abusive and agressive to him (online obviously) as you can talk to one another if you want.
-
@Paekakboyz cheers, yeah I'm pretty easy with the genre, like them all as long as the actual game is decent. I hear good things about The Elder Scrolls for RPGs but wondering if that would require too much time to get anywhere (like Warcraft).
Like the idea of multi-player games to play with the wife as well.
Destiny looks pretty awesome - will give that a go
-
@taniwharugby ha ha it's worse than crack!! Not my kind of game. You've gotta sink some time in to be decent and have fun imo. Plus not that keen on 9 year olds telling me they go balls deep on my mum!
If you do go for the community side of things it's worth connecting with a good bunch. I think you get most of the vile shit when you jump in with randoms
-
Definitely give elder scrolls a go bro! Skyrim is ficking epic and even short sessions let you advance pretty quickly. I'm big on total war warhammer atm, but I think that's more PC than console based. Dark souls is also cool, but expect to die... a lot!!
-
@paekakboyz not all 9 year olds though....
I dont have the time for those types of games or RPGs (whihc are my preferred types of games or ones where the longer you play the better your characters/cities/villages etc)) so I just go with the sports stuff I can just play when I want and doesnt matter if I dont play for ages.
As it is, I still play a farking game on my phone, and have done for years!

I'm a former PS2 addict and given I have 8 and 10 year old sons not to mention 16 and 18 year old stepsons I feel I'm pretty good at discussing this.
The first two routinely beat their old man's ass at Star Wars Battlefront 2 ( it may surprise a few regular readers on here that my son's are Star Wars fans ). This is a source of immense pride on one level....immense shame on the other. I'll also never forget many years ago going to have a shower and accidentally leaving GTA5 on....oldest boy ( 5 at the time ) wandered around and found a helicopter and while showing me his skills crashed into a powerline and died ( I'd spent ages trying to find that chopper ). I was thankful he didn't work out how to run down pedestrians or murder hookers. He was also a Minecraft nut and I loved playing that with him. Such haunting music....
I play the latter two at various MMA type games and put up a pretty good fight for an old guy so they tell me. Their old man has no interest in this stuff so nice I can bond with them over that although there is a lot of sympathetic looks from them....I also enjoy playing Black Ops with him, that game is awesome provided he is there to guide me and mentor me. Get that one on PS4 @No-Quarter
Personally about 10 or so years ago I absolutely loved God of War, the GTA series, Silent Hill, Resident Evil etc. I actually reactived the PS3 and occasionally have a hoon at that. How amazing are the graphics on PS4 these days though??? Oldest stepson sometimes downloads a few old classic games, he and I had a great summer clocking GTA San Andreas over a couple of Summer days ( when the rest of the family went to the beach ).
Jonah Rugby was always fun. The left winger in all the teams plus all the forwards were great at fending. Always a challenge to get on the piss and have turns playing against some shit team ( China Taipei for example ) and try and get all 15 players on the scoresheet. Best I got was 13, I think fitzy and Craig dowd missed out.
Even though I'm not a massive football fan I prefer them to Rugby games, easier translation to computer gaming I reckon, there never seemed to be much skill in retaining possession in rugby games, just add lots of players and push the shit out of the buttons.
