I'm a former PS2 addict and given I have 8 and 10 year old sons not to mention 16 and 18 year old stepsons I feel I'm pretty good at discussing this.
The first two routinely beat their old man's ass at Star Wars Battlefront 2 ( it may surprise a few regular readers on here that my son's are Star Wars fans ). This is a source of immense pride on one level....immense shame on the other. I'll also never forget many years ago going to have a shower and accidentally leaving GTA5 on....oldest boy ( 5 at the time ) wandered around and found a helicopter and while showing me his skills crashed into a powerline and died ( I'd spent ages trying to find that chopper ). I was thankful he didn't work out how to run down pedestrians or murder hookers. He was also a Minecraft nut and I loved playing that with him. Such haunting music....
I play the latter two at various MMA type games and put up a pretty good fight for an old guy so they tell me. Their old man has no interest in this stuff so nice I can bond with them over that although there is a lot of sympathetic looks from them....I also enjoy playing Black Ops with him, that game is awesome provided he is there to guide me and mentor me. Get that one on PS4 @No-Quarter
Personally about 10 or so years ago I absolutely loved God of War, the GTA series, Silent Hill, Resident Evil etc. I actually reactived the PS3 and occasionally have a hoon at that. How amazing are the graphics on PS4 these days though??? Oldest stepson sometimes downloads a few old classic games, he and I had a great summer clocking GTA San Andreas over a couple of Summer days ( when the rest of the family went to the beach ).
Jonah Rugby was always fun. The left winger in all the teams plus all the forwards were great at fending. Always a challenge to get on the piss and have turns playing against some shit team ( China Taipei for example ) and try and get all 15 players on the scoresheet. Best I got was 13, I think fitzy and Craig dowd missed out.
Even though I'm not a massive football fan I prefer them to Rugby games, easier translation to computer gaming I reckon, there never seemed to be much skill in retaining possession in rugby games, just add lots of players and push the shit out of the buttons.
Time for a GTA session with your boys, go to the strippie then shoot some cops!! Aw, father son bonding time
Ex wife and i were in the midst of splitting and it effected my oldest boy heaps more so one night I let him stay up late and play GTA provided he didn't do anything naughty. It was genuinely hilarious watching him walking around trying to mind his own business and not get in any shit cos I told him the moment there was a one star wanted level it was bedtime!
Even the ex laughed at the futility of that situation
The whole point of the game is getting into trouble!

Correct but there is also some lovely scenic drives, jet skiiing and biking etc.
The attention to detail in those games is nothing short of genius don't you think? We even went to the pub and put a bet on a horse hahaha.

I'm long term, and pretty hardcore, into Battlefield. But also I'm PC Master Race, so cannot give you ideas on PS exclusive stuff. Outside of knifing and teabagging in Beef - I have enjoyed some great old school RPGs like Pillars of Eternity & Divinity Original Sin 2, funny shit like Borderlands 2 in co-op, and awesome wargames like the Warhammer Total War. One fun game is the LotR game Shadow of War where the Orcs/enemies have personalities and build up depending on who you off - the protagonist is dull as shit but the bad guys are funny.
Others to check out, in no particular order: Diablo 3, Witcher 3, Basingstoke & Bomber Crew (not sure if PC only?), Fallout (any), Alien Isolation (fkn scary as), Hollow Knight, newer Wolfensteins & Doom, Prey, just to name a couple

@machpants how does pillars of eternity stack up to baldur's gate etc?

@no-quarter Regarding Rugby games, I don't have Rugby 18 but have Rugby Challenge 3 and Rugby League Live 4 and they're both fairly average games but I play careers and make awesome Shield Snorters teams. When I had a month's break from work last year I created a greatest ever Shield Snorters team from scratch (mucked around figuring out weights and heights of players etc). My mate and I used to play online quite a bit.
The problem with the Rugby game is that the highest level was impossible - you can't even throw a lineout in straight - but the second hardest was too easy. I play the league game more these days.
Other than those I'd recommend the Uncharted games, they're a mix of shoot em up and puzzles (male Tomb Raider basically). The old ones have been remastered so you can go through them all if you liked them.

Naughty Dog make some great games.
The Last of Us would be my pick of the games that has been brought to PS4 that was also released on PS3. An epic story mixed with some great game play.
The Uncharted games are the other games they've released on PS4 are also great. Kinda Indiana Jones types of stories mixed with gaming.
Rayman Legends and any of the Lego multiplayer games would be heaps of fun to play with the kids.
There is also PS Plus. This gives you access to online games and you can also download a couple of free games each month ($90 per year)
The new God of War is supposed to awesome too. Haven't had time to play it yet though.

What's a good space sci-fi game? I've been playing Star Trek Online recently, but it's pretty average.
Someone should licence Peter F Hamilton or Neal Asher's books for games.
No they shouldnβt. Iβd end up like one of those South Koreans that donβt eat for 72 hours playing games and are found dead.

Thanks guys some good suggestions and more than enough to keep me entertained

@paekakboyz Yeah, that was really intriguing. That fictional universe has a lot of possibilities. I suspect that a TV series based on it could be as big as Star Trek.

Definitely give elder scrolls a go bro! Skyrim is ficking epic and even short sessions let you advance pretty quickly. I'm big on total war warhammer atm, but I think that's more PC than console based. Dark souls is also cool, but expect to die... a lot!!
Picked up Skyrim in the weekend, played the first level, and can already tell how awesome this game is going to be. Love how it started off with someone getting beheaded, and how when you kill someone he sometimes does an awesome elaborate finishing move. I also spent way too long customising what my character looked like...

@no-quarter ahem, let me know if you want any tips on min/maxing. There is a pretty easy smithing and enchanting grind you can do (iron daggers for africa) that you can spam. If you do it in bursts it doesn't upset the leveling or difficulty.
Was that the version with Dawnguard and Hearthstone? Love me some vampire killing with a crossbow!

Of all your posts on here this is by far the most baffling. I don't understand a word.
