@no-quarter Yes. The way she wanks on it's like this is NZ's first ever murder. And fuck her for apologising on the entire country's behalf. Every year millions of people come here and have the best time ever. That is why tourism is about our hugest money spinner. I'm not responsible for the hideous actions of some young fuckwit. Nor is anyone else.

Oh. Fuck . Off
Sanctimonious shameless attention whore alert

@jegga I’m with you. Just when you think that everybody in the country is thinking the same thing, that this is a desperately sad and terrible act committed by a worthless scumbag, you realise that there are arseholes like Rob McCann who are wanking themselves blind over the opportunity it presents to grab the limelight. It simply doesn’t matter how worthy his cause, this is just wrong.

@mokey said in Alternative needed from the absolute crap of stuff.co.nz:
@canefan that story makes me sick. Murdered and dumped in bushes. Cases like this really make me wish we had the death penalty. It's hard to see what the reason is for name suppression, the police seem very confident and made the arrest very fast.
Name suppression is pretty pointless when various UK newspapers are posting names and photos of the alleged murderer.
I'm increasingly unconvinced about not having the death penalty - but, I'll settle for having people concreted into cells with no doors.

Which is all well and good - if they actually do their due diligence. I see another occasional TSFer rightly called out one of those papers on facebook for posting up a picture of someone else with the same name, which is pretty disgusting. It's since been removed apparently.

Any lawyers able to explain how this works? Does name supression only exist int he country of charge?
Seems kind of fucked up and outdated. Just read the guys name and full profile on the torygraph website.
Its a bit redundant these days , a couple of years back Elton John got name suppression for his husband but it only applied to England and Wales and the Scottish newspapers were allowed to publish the story.

So many vomit inducing articles being posted on this. Actually even worse than vomit inducing, down right dangerous articles for young women.
Yes in an absolutely perfect world you should be safe to wear what you want and go where you want at all hours of the night without telling anyone and be 100% safe and the reality is 99% of the time you are ok in western countries at least.
But there is a tiny fringe element of people that mean you harm and there is nothing society can do to completely eliminate that risk. All the crocodile tears, consent courses, articles on toxic masculinity, slutwalks and white ribbon days do absolutely nothing for womens (or anyones) safety. Your safety is in the first instance your responsibility, this isn't laying blame it is just common sense. The first time I was mugged it was because I took a shortcut through a park in the south of London at 2am..all I lost that day was a phone and some pride, I was lucky, not everyone is and young women are especially vulnerable. If the feminist fringes really gave a damn about womens safety they would be advocating at the very least for the legalisation of non-lethal defensive tools such as pepper spray.

@Rembrandt yeah, growing up I remember the whole message was about empowering women - self defense classes, gadgets for them to use should they be in a dangerous situation etc. Now the focus is on them being utterly defenseless victims, that should bear no responsibility for their own safety. This stuff is ridiculous, thankfully I'd say the women that actually buy into this narrative are a small but loud minority.

I don't know how small the minority is, have had some level headed friends post this shit.
You can just sense the feminist column writers are salivating at the prospect that this could be a rape and murder by a straight white man. Think of the article hits!

Do we KNOW there was a murder?
We suspect she died in the company of a man who has been arrested and charged with her murder, and appears to have tried to dispose of her body.
Do we know how she died? Not yet.
Let's assume for a second she ODed. He panics and dumps the evidence. A potential scenario.
Guilty of perverting the course, interfering with a corpse etc.
We don't know anything yet.
The dude is currently innocent.
So all these people making grandiose claims, including our dearly beloved PM, should hold their comments until we know more, especially if it compromises an actual murder trial. (Especially Cindy.)
Remember Gabe Tostee and Warriena Wright? Dubious actions and character but mot guilty of murder.
PS. Has Cindy apologised on behalf of NZ to any other murder victim's families?
-
@booboo yup the defence lawyer will have a field day with Adern's apology and all the hit pieces in the media.

@jegga What happened to Grace was absolutely dreadful and I'm heartbroken for her family and friends, but the public grief overload and vigils, articles, Prime Ministerial apology on behalf of the nation for one tourist are absolutely OTT.
If the PM wants to sob about something, how about our appalling domestic violence or suicide rates.
