Despite my excesses at various bars, breweries and Eat Street yesterday, I went for a run along the Brisbane river this morning.
Fucking glad I did, beautiful morning for it. Running in cool air is nice!
13km in 1.09 and did it easy. Stopped because it was time not because I was tired. No breakfast, no water, no nutrition, slightly hungover but I honestly believe I could have run 21 at the same pace.
Seems I can just go out and run now. Awesome
Great stuff. I was there a month ago .... and then went on holiday and got ill. Now struggling a bit for the motivation to get back there and more.
Don’t be like me!

Eat Street is awesome. Where were you staying?

Humbled last night. On my run, feeling okay (a little heavy in the legs as i had done an hour on the bike trainer in the morning) when this girl absolutely smoked past me. I looked at my watch and i was doing 5min kms, and she was disappearing off in to the distance. And it's not like she was just starting either, i had seen her going the other way a little way back. About 2km further on at the tunraround she was already 400m in front of me.
She looked really fucking fit though. Young and fit. Bitch. She is either doing the full Iron Man, or she is looking to be at the pointy end of the half. Wish i had legs like that.
I did 11.5km in an hour flat, which was great, but all i could think about was how easily i was made to look like a plodder earlier on.
So 19 days until the race. In a less than ideal prep i spend all of next week in Macau, if i am honest, drinking too much. So my training ends Sunday morning. I am not feeling that confident to be honest. I know my aerobic fitness is great, it's just how i go turning my legs over after the bike.
Swim is going to be about the same as last year. Not fast, but steady, and i should finish in decent shape
Bike is my main worry, the weather has been so shit i just haven't done enough kms, so i am really worried what i will feel like getting off
My running is undoubtedly the best it has ever been, but i think it is just going to be a mental battle to keep my legs turning over. -

Sounds like you are in great shape to me, good luck!
I think i mentioned it before, but without i am as fit, if not fitter, than i have ever been. I'm astounded what i can do without blowing really hard, and how quickly i recover.
It's just that i have a lot to get through, and having never done it before, i don't know what to expect.

fark you sound like a machine compared to me...when I sprint along about 5.30min/km I think I am doing well...I try to ignore the people that pass me, cnuts haha.

When I was at uni a friend was a UCI triathlete. Occasionally we'd bump into each other on the road. I'd be thankful for the push, he'd be chatting thankful for the rest. Then off he'd go.

machine is waaay too far. I haven't put in enough work for that, and i have continued to drink. I love to drink.
But i have really improved my running, my last 3 runs have all been between 11 and 13 kms, and all done at average speeds of 5.20 per km. That's pretty solid in my book.
Surprisingly, now that it doesn't hurt, i have actually enjoyed the running, and i think i will keep up with it after my race. Might even look at a marathon one day.

A mate of mine did the 100km trail run in the Blue Mountains on the weekend. Absolutely insane. Now he is a machine.

I've done the six foot track run with people who finish it in three hours. They're simply a different species.

@mariner4life most of my 'running' is trail runs, so includes alot of walking up steps.

i run on the Esplanade because it is nice, flat, and there are heaps of hot chicks in active wear.

race week.
last week not the ideal prep, big week in China. Too much food, too much beer. one epically large night out. Did manage a 10km run though.
This week very light work only. Swam a km yesterday. 45 minutes on the bike trainer this morning. A slow 5km planned for Thursday.
Pretty stressed about Sunday to be honest. Feels like Grand Final week used to. Not excited yet, hoping that comes when i register on Friday.

okay, race weekend here, and conditions are, quite frankly, appalling. It's raining today. Wind is 25-35ks. By all accounts Palm Cove is a washing machine, with swells up to a metre.
36 hours to calm the fuck down or it's going to be a shitfight.
