Wellington vs Canterbury (Premiership Semi Final 2)
-
With poor scheduling from Mitre 10 Cup administrators, this game will clash with the first World Cup quarter-final so I am expecting a fairly poor crowd.
Anyway the odds are even and tbh I can't pick this one. Wellington probably have a slight edge with their recent history against the Cantabs at home being fairly impressive.
Teams to be announced soon hopefully.

@Canes4life being a proud Wellingtonian I reckon Canterbury just due to our poor records against them in Finals

Yup, more often than not the red n blacks outsmart us in finals footy sadly

And they get the rub of the green in most cases.

I still remember a certain failed shield challenge when they got away with murder

Head Coach Joe Maddock has named his side for the knock-out fixture, which includes injury-enforced changes from the team that took the field against North Harbour on Sunday. Both Brodie McAlister and Seb Siataga have been ruled out of the Semi Final through injury, which means Shilo Klein will start at hooker and Nic Souchon, who has two caps for Canterbury, has been named on the bench. There are two further changes in the backline, with Ngane Punivai (knee) and Tim Bateman (hamstring) both unavailable this week, replaced by Sam Gilbert on the left wing and Inga Finau in the midfield. Lincoln University's Harrison Courtney is set to debut in the red and black tomorrow night; the loosehead prop replaces Harry Allan on the bench, while Luke Romano will bring up his 50th appearance for Canterbury when he takes the field in Wellington.

Notable that the imported Italian lock (although he appears to be the reserve loose forward in this game) brought in late in the piece yet again only makes the bench. One must be left to ponder why the WRFU went to the expense to bringing in an outsider bench player at the expense of loyal local players. Has there been any mention that he might be carrying a minor injury?

What Rugby World Cup? This is the most important knock out rugby game on this weekend.
Good Guys by 2.

cannot believe Romano is only bringing up his 50th cap for Canterbury

Nah surely we have to make it to the final? Always the bridesmaid!

The administrators are presumably New Zealand Rugby. As I've been pointing out for a while, when it comes to organizing competitions they are borderline incompetent.
Super Rugby. Mitre10 Cup. Ranfurly Shield - not often part of sentences that include well-run, fair and balanced competitions.

Yeah exactly, if NZRU say the competition shouldn't clash with the RWC, I'm pretty sure NPC Administrators have to follow suit. This is shit that not only is it still running alongside, but is actually clashing with games, let alone finals games!
-
@Bones Yeah - I hadn't actually compared the kick-off times but for the record...
This one apparently kicks off at 19.05 (NZT) and England-Australia apparently kicks off at 20.15 (NZT). Because no-one in Wellington or Canterbury wants to watch England play Australia.
It's bullshit!
Probably corporate bullshit!
Edit: And could easily have been played on Sunday afternoon.
