Coronavirus - Overall
-
Corona's buzz score - which tracks whether American adults aware of the brand have heard positive or negative things about it - has tumbled to 51 from a high of 75 at the beginning of the year, YouGov said.

@Rembrandt he should go an break his leg so he cant travel...
seriously though, that is odd (although guess it depends on the policy - manyo f those that come with your credit card are shite) but typically travel covers dont have the same blanket infectious disease exclusions as others...is that over the whole policy or only certain sections, for example:
Covered under SECTION 1: Medical and Dental Expense
Covered under SECTION 2: Additional Expenses
Not Covered under SECTION 3: Amendment and Cancellation Cost
Not Covered under SECTION 8: Travel Delay
Not Covered under SECTION 10: Missed ConnectionI thought it odd too. His travel agent whom they booked it through has the opposite view and says everything is fine. I'm going to get him to send me a copy to have a read.
-
This. Seems the timing of when you bought the policy is most important, and they're making things up on the run.

Front page of The Australian:
Man with COVID-19 visits supermarket
A man with coronavirus visited a Tasmanian supermarket to gather supplies after being asked to self-isolate.

@taniwharugby thanks for that info mate.
Have you got a travel insurance recommendation for one off trips - no obligations of course -
@Siam I guess an annual policy is a good idea, especially for those who travel regularly, but then there are those who buy tickets at the last minute, which means if you have an annual travel policy, but booked tickets today, as it is a known event, they may not provide cover at all.
I will need to look at the advice I got sent yesterday, if that is blanket world wide or still region specific, that said, I doubt there will be too many last minute deals at the moment anyway with airlines stopping flights...probably get some good deals to holiday locally though.
Booking (and paying) for travel now will carry a risk, because if it does become a global pandemic and borders are shut everywhere....may come down to the Airline refunding after they cancel flights, but hotels and the like may be less accomodating (no pun intended)

I had a read, it doesn't look good.

@Rembrandt ouch...that's rough.
What I posted above was from an insurer release today, had another similar yesterday.
Probably not what you are looking at when taking out a policy, although travel agent tacked onto your travel plans are normally decent enough
-
@taniwharugby Allianz via House of Travel. Annoyingly they got in touch with the person who sold it who said they were fine...seems like total bs 'she'll be right' attitude there. Have told my brother to get her to put it in writing that they are covered cause I don't see it.
Booked in September and would more than likely be insurance as recommended by House of Travel. You'd think even by going by their directors comments in the press this week that they'd cover pandemics if booked pre-announcement.
Of course now I'm the fluffybunny who has to rain on their honeymoon parade by reading the print rather than taking Ms Salesperson at her word.

I'm trying to work out what is more ridiculous. The great aussie toilet paper scare..or the world health organisation.
What a time to be alive.
At least we know the most pressing issue facing the world now.
Good to know.

Managing this stuff is hard because it's standard law that citizens can't be refused entry to their country of citizenship, so we can't stop them coming home. I mean, we could simply ground all planes and close highways, but that seems like it might be going a bit far. Much better if people could stop being average, but that's probably not that likely either.
The travel insurance thing is just annoying and a good way to destroy the industry's credibility. For people booking now, two options:
- Cover-more have a policy with change your mind coverage, but has an excess of 25%.
- Book flexi/cancellable tickets (Qantas do those) and hotels which allow free cancellation up to the travel dates.
