@Virgil Wow. That is stupid, wrong, and cold as ice. Clearly they've missed the stories of young 20-somethings on twitter etc who have been sharing stories of their hospitalisation etc.
Attention seekers or individuals with spreadsheets of genetic weakness.

Checking in from a super market in central Auckland. Busy, but only queues to check out.
Big runs on flour, tomato sauce, yeast, but everything else available.
Orderly shopping at the moment. Hate to think what it'll be like in four hours time.
Edit: yeah only three lanes open. That's a great idea team

"Today, he had turned away 17 tourists "who couldn't be bothered to self-isolate". Molloy said he had started sending photographs of the passports to the Ministry of Health."
17 people. That's 1 bar, in 1 day. Fck knows how many people are out there flouting the iso rules

Wife wants to pull the kids out of school now and just take off to the bach and I can work from there. Plan was to do this if we were heading in to a lockdown.
I’m in two minds on what to do. Feels like it could happen very soon anyway but also who knows how long them being of school etc actually may go on for and no need to make it longer if it doesn’t need to be.

@JK just saw something on FB (which was from MOE or MOH) saying at this point they have no plans on closing schools given the wider implications of doing so (kids ending up in other uncontrolled environments, parents having to stop work or kids being looked after by grand parents)
Couldn't find it again though, as FB tends to be like.

Yeah I think I read that as well.

@Baron-Silas-Greenback An interesting read for sure, and it makes plenty of sense. I guess it comes down to whether you can trust the public to wash their hands, limit social distancing and keep up basic hygiene. So far Australia has failed miserably in this regard.
In a very communist driven way the best outcome would be if each citizen/resident was given a risk rating based off age, health etc. This would be tied to your phone. Whatever your risk rating was limits your ability to interact with society. If you are high risk then you self isolate etc. If you are 18 with no health issues your risk is very low so you can keep working etc but limit your interaction with high risk people. People that become immune after infection become the people who interact directly with the high risk.
In theory that way the economy can trickle along and the at risk will have a lower chance of death. It appears the Asian countries that have the most govt control are responding the best.

@Rembrandt They don't actually bother me, I think fair play to them, it's their thing and they've been waiting for it to happen they haven't panic bought anything. I'd like a follow up story on them next year when they've used everything and have to start again..

Someone at Stuff or the Herald should break that down into language the average person can understand and make it into a daily series. But they'd probably just screw it up

If they could risk access businesses too that would be great. I manage a very small firm, there’s only me and 1 other guy there and we are seperate with our work areas too. As long as there’s work coming in we should be able to continue.

This is a huge point. It all makes sense but can you really trust people to do the right thing? If people can't be trusted not to go out in high density close contact situations where transmission is significant, can we trust them with a simple task like washing hands thoroughly? So far the answer would be a big no.

Why would they do that? This is the best thing that’s happened to them in ages. People are gagging for a fix and it’s not in the old media’s best interests to soft pedal the drama. Especially when they can help canonise Jacinda and win a Labour re-election along the way.
