@Bovidae I'll take anything that germ Paul Kent writes about Greenberg with a large pinch of salt. He can't stand him, and has actively been campaigning to get rid of him for ages
He'll start on the next bloke in 12 months as well. He just hates the NRL head office
V'landys has come in and ridden rough-shod all over everything as well. Pretty sure he locked Todd out of the broadcast negotiations.
I'm not defending Greenberg, but i think the NRL CEO is the last sporting job in the county i would take.

I'm not a fan of Kent either.
There were rumours recently that Greenberg was trying to oust V'landys so it must have been a strained relationship. NRL HQ have wasted so much money with their exorbitant salaries and bloated staff numbers. No sympathy from me.
As for Greenberg's exit, it must be the Doggies curse with former CEOs.

the Club's are no better. Because certain clubs have created an arms race that most can't win

English club rugby is targeting a July restart to the suspended Gallagher Premiership season with plans for teams to play two games a week – but Twickenham is not expected to be the sole stadium used for the 57 remaining fixtures.
.....
A newspaper report had claimed that English Rugby HQ would stage all the remaining games as the stadium’s adjacent Marriott hotel was seen as a perfect way to keep the players safe in a controlled environment.Would be a good use of the Twickers hotel, which would be getting no to not much use.
Got me thinking a bit about Wasps. Wasps have huge debt as a gamble on making the Ricoh Arena complex profitable in the future. The complex is the stadium, the arena and a hotel. All of those are dead at the moment.
From 12th March: Wasps group lose nearly £5m in six-month period ...

@Bovidae the other question you have to ask is 180 staff? WTAF? For how many professional unions?
Professional bodies can go one of two ways - stay small, streamlined and efficient, or bloat. Pretty sure all the rugby development folk are employed by unions too, rathe rthan NZRU.

The Bergamo (Atalanta) > Madrid > Liverpool triangle.
An English news report claims Liverpool's European Champions League game against Spanish club Atletico Madrid led to "an additional'' 41 Covid-19 related deaths.
The March 11 game at Liverpool's Anfield ground was attended by 52,000 fans, including 3000 Atletico Madrid supporters.
The Sunday Times reported that Edge Health, which analyses National Health Service data-modelling statistics, believe the Liverpool match led to "41 additional coronavirus-related deaths" between 25 to 35 days later.
Edge Health also believed the Cheltenham Festival horse racing event in Gloucestershire - which drew around 250,000 people around the same time as the Liverpool match - "led to 37 additional coronavirus-related deaths''.
