Piss off Bones, you know you're not hopeless. You're just mediocre. And don't you ever let anyone tell you different.

right so, despite the last week being a serious blip, I'm back to 60 kilos, and around 15 cigs a day which is way down on my usual intake. Coffee is still around 10-12 mugs, but I've almost cut out all the sugar. Eating a shitload of bread though. Packing away genuine curries (none of that westerner palate shit either). Even managed not to eat a whole box of muesli in three days.

I used to road bike a bit, but was never committed as I hated the early morning starts and commitment to 3-4 hours in the saddle.
Mountain biking seems a better option, you can go out for 2hrs in the middle of the day and still get a safe workout.
Will def get into it when I get back to Sydney

So I've figured out why my calves are giving me grief. Turns out I just need to throw some money at the problem.
This website says to replace them after 300-500 miles, and I've done about 340miles (550kms) in mine - clearly that's the problem!!!

Yep, It's time to change mine as well. The wear in the palm (?) of my foot is getting pretty pronounced

@mariner4life what are you going to get? I'll likely stick with some variation of the Adidas Boost I reckon
-
Exactly what i have now, Asics Gel Kayano. Need that heel support.

And I think the part of needing to improve your riding skills to ride the more technical trails gives you something to work on .
So it doesn’t feel like you are just going out for a run/ride ,more like you are participating in a sport , that’s the part I’m addicted to, getting better at it

Yep do like a bit of mountain biking. Always enjoyed it as a kid but never did anything too serious. Over the past couple of years though I've got back in to it and bought a couple of bikes.
Usually just ride local trails or out at woodhill but need to get down to Rotorua and try some of the amazing trails they have there.
Yesterday I went out on my hardtail and tried to ride the waitaia bay road. Its a 4wd trail at best and probably better suited to a quad bike. Had my 10 year old with me so we only did about 2/3rd of it as it was just too wet and muddy. Will def be back though and probably with my full sus bike.
Never been in to the road riding. Its pretty much like road running (boring as fark) but with lycra....Not for me.
Oh and the cardio aspect of mountain biking is under rated. It can be farken brutal!

Yeah my local trails are pretty hard going ,long steep climbs , and bombing back down enduro / downhill trails , its pretty punishing but good fun
i have another mtb park a bit further away the other direction completely different , much flatter and flowy, with lots of cornering and berms , its good to mix it up and ride both

@JK Also, rotorua looks awesome ,
havent been there yet, trails looks so good on you tube , lots of aussie riders make the trip over there to ride there
Reckon we might do a family trip down there in a month or so time. Will have to stick the bike on the back!
Had a whole lot of rain here this weekend so woodhill should be humming next weekend. Was getting a bit too dry and sandy when i went a couple of weeks back
