Just watched the last episode. Those guys were my heros as a kid and it is great to see them together, and the struggles with life after their success is completely understandable.
Must be hard for any ex sportsman to adjust to life. The body craps out.. unless your Ritchie of course and it just keeps going abs going, but we know he’s a freak.
They spend most of their 20s and 30s even in a bubble where everything is planned for them and looked after. Then oneday it’s over.
Have enjoyed their comradery during the show too -

Have enjoyed their comradery during the show tooReally hard to adapt. I have gone from airline captain to businessman / property developer.
A gauranteed income, to fucking earn it or go broke. Some of those guys are my age, some are running a business, some are working for others I assume, but the change is immense and not being able to do a job that you love anymore...Well.

Yeah I think ( hang on just let me put my grumpy old man hat on ) that the fact a lot of them are in their 40s like me makes me resonate with them heaps more than Akira, Reiko, Aaron, TJ and whoever else is playing today.

Wish this show was on a bit longer so we could see even bigger transformations.
Howlett keeps himself in good nick. He looked about the same as he did during his playing days.
Good to see Iceman make an appearance. His speech during the jersey presentation was quality.

@Paekakboyz they get media training though too which helps.

One of the telling comments early on was Pita Alatini talking about how he was dropped at a time that he thought he was at his peak playing form and had no explanation so had problems processing that and it led him to some bad choices/dark places.
I hope the NZRU were watching and took note. I would like to think that mental health is looked after these days but recent Ioane(s) examples seem to indicate more work needs doing. -
Really enjoyed that show
I think a lot of us did. My earthworks guys were just talking about it too. It was compulsory viewing...that might have been from their wives though.
The physical and mental health links seemed very obvious.
Inspirational and nostalgic. Very cool.
I hope they get them back the following year to show progress, or even get another bunch of guys on. Not sure how expensive it was to produce, but was good TV IMO

Surely there’s no shortage of ex ABs who’d be keen ?

There’s a precedent in the UK with Harry Redknapp and ex-England footballers, with series in consecutive years

I still can't get this on my VPN.

The “journey” John Mitchell was good at that
