Aussie Bush Fires

@NTA not happening. Stinky hot today and blustery northerlies. No rain forecast till maybe some thunderstorms Tuesday.
May be too little too late.
Kingfisher Bay looking to be in the gun.
Real shame if it goes. Beautiful spot really nicely integrated into the bush, lovely use of local timber. Just has a nice relaxing feel about it.

Just some rain will do.
Climate change notwithstanding, snow does seem unlikely for you.
The island still on fire?
Yep. Bit hard to work out exactly where the front(s) is(are) but it's bearing down on the major resort.
Will not be good for Hervey Bay/Fraser Coast if we lose that.
Apparently getting a little political about how they've been allowed to fight the fire (I.e., retardants and not being fussed about it for some time after it started).

Photo from yesterday morning.
Again resolution doesn't do it justice (straight from phone cropped down).
Looks like two fronts going gangbusters.
Kingfisher Bay appears to have been reprieved thus far, but Happy Valley on the eastern coast has been evacuated, issued with a "leave now" and basically told head out onto the beach.
Warm day (33 deg) and strong northerlies.
Some precipitation possible Tuesday still. But may amount to nothing.

Warning as at 3.45am
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire approaching Happy Valley. Leaving immediately is the safest option, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive. Any persons in the vicinity of Happy Valley township should leave the area heading to the Eastern Beach and head south to Eurong Resort.
Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave immediately if it is clear to do so. If you cannot leave, identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.
Currently as at 3.30am Monday 7 December, a large fire is travelling in a south easterly direction towards Happy Valley township on Fraser Island. It is expected to impact Happy Valley township around 7am. The fire is expected to have a significant IMPACT on the community.
Conditions are now very dangerous and firefighters may soon be unable to prevent the fire advancing. The fire may pose a threat to all lives directly in its path. Fire crews may not be able to protect your property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door: act now.
Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost and road conditions may become very dangerous over the next several hours.

What sort of population are we talking in this area?

Not huge number of permanent residents. They're more resorts.
A lot of privately owned villas/apartments that some people live in, or use as holiday homes or allow the resort to let to holiday makers (or all if the above).
Obviously there's staff as well.
Major concern for the tourism industry if these places burn.
Also of major concern ecologically is if the fire gets into stands of unique rain forest as opposee to rhe eucalypt as that wont grow back.

That's what happened in parts of northern NSW - temperate rainforest got hit i.e. the shit that is usually too wet to burn.
The increasingly dry conditions are going to start changing ecologies all over. This is the tip of the spear.

About 100mm in the next 2 hours right over Fraser would be nice.
Funny that ...
... East Coast Low developing that's due to drown SEQ Sunday and Monday apparently. So should get a fair amount on to Fraser to dampen things down.

(Saw a tweet that one of the Bureau's models even had it developing into a Cat 1. Unlikely that one though.)
Fires seem to have become less troublesome.
On the East/ocean side of the island it appears to have been diverted around the Happy Valley resort. Aerial mapping image I saw looks like a wave that crashed against a rock then washed around either side. Nothing left to burn there so they're safe. The fire on the Kingfisher Bay side of the island looks to have massively reduced in size, through concerted efforts and friendlier weather. So that's good too.
Anyway looks like I may be complaining about floods in a couple of days ... hopefully not, we ran out of beer when the Mary flooded in 2011 (and milk and toilet paper ... but beer!).

SE Qld getting a cyclone before us is a pretty 2020 thing
