Excellent post, mate. Think you nailed the issue.
But I do wonder what the solution is, other than food rationing.

Just seen Boris on the 10pm news
Once you get past that he looks like a slob you see that he’s a fat slob.I read he'd lost a lot of weight, Mike - 10kg IIRC - and is still losing it. He used to run a fair bit before he got Covid so I guess fitness is less of a protection than we think?
Yeah, he has an appalling dress sense but wonder if that's part of his charm. Or a carefully made image.
Did you se his neck and jowls?
if that's losing 10kg he was lucky to live when he was 10kg heavier.

People don't find glee in being proven right on this - they were always right and everybody knew it. People find a sense a relief that perhaps finally, seriously fucking finally, people at the top level are acknowledging this and looking for ways to reduce the other pandemic going on
This 1 million %
Unfortunately when the decision makers and the health professionals are part pf the problem not the solution, I'm not overly optimistic that much will change.

Before and after. Def uber-porky when he got covid.

Anyway in positive news, kids back to school today, numbers the lowest the have been since September & vaccine roll out continues ...
Tough old slog in the UK continues, on what should have been a landmark day for the country, all everybody is talking about is those two now in California.

@tewaio how are you now? Recovered?
That's very kind of you to ask, thank you
I had about two days of the extreme fatigue and breathlessness, then steadily felt less and less tired for the remaining 6 days in isolation. All in all I stayed in a bedroom for 8 days. I was completely separated from wife and child, meals left outside the door etc. Both of them never got it (3x negative tests) which was great.
Since getting out last Friday I've struggled to work full days (from home) without needing a lie down. I went for a gentle walk on Sunday and my heart rate hit 170, which is a concern, normal max for me is 190. I was pretty fit going into this (I'm 33), but that doesn't seem to have helped much. I think I'll take an entire month off exercise, as I've read that's the best way to prevent long covid, although not much concrete is really known about it.

good to hear mate. Like most illnesses, you are best to listen to your body and avoid too much heavy exercise. Just concentrate on getting back to 100% as soon as you can

Good news, mate.
I can sympathise - had Post Viral Fatigue last year which the GP thinks was Long Covid. I was quite fit for my age before it struck (plenty of heavy gardening). Total flattened me. Like you I had to take it easy and not over-do it. And don't feel frustrated if it takes a while to go away - It doesn't last forever.

Good that on the mend. Some quirky data emerging that vaccination seems significantly to reduce Long Covid symptoms.

That's great to hear, especially about your family
-
@tewaio Glad to hear you are feeling better fella, sounds nasty to get over. Very similar my wife having it (we think) last year, same sort of story, although she was down for the count for 4 days and then 2 -3 week recovery before back to her standard fitness of fuck all.

Excellent idea. I shall follow that advice. I also heard that loads of pies and beer can help recovery.
Glad to hear that you are on the mend.

This has been doing the rounds this evening
If correct, then that’s Olympics level shambles and corruption.

Pretty safe to assume its bollocks.
good ol' social media, spreading bullshit since forever.
it would be 3.5 % of the entire govt Budget and same size as law and order.
-
Oh wow. It may not be bollocks.
A google search is showing numbers like that.
-
Seems those figures are way, way wrong and have been debunked.
"By the end of October 2020, around £478 million was estimated to have been spent on contact tracing by NHS specialists, Serco and other contractors. "
"(in October 2020) The German government has said its (tracing) app cost around €20 million to develop with operating costs of €3 million per month."
Which means Germany's 20m covid tests would have to have been done at zero cost....

It is bollocks. And distracts from sensible debate, sadly.

It is unclear whether AstraZeneca is producing much vaccine in the United States or if Washington would apply a restrictive measure on trade. AstraZeneca’s vaccine has not yet been approved for use in the United States.
“The vaccine isn’t approved in the United States, so of course we can’t sell it to other countries yet,” said Margaret Cekuta, a former U.S. trade official who is now a principal with the Capitol Counsel lobbying firm. She said exporting a vaccine before it is approval by the Food and Drug Administration could also raise potential liability problems.
