Shame on me. I always forget how fun that thread is

Stuff has a different definition of "famed" to the one I use. Anybody have any idea who this person is?

Absolutely none. You could point a gun at my head and I’d be clueless as to who this “famed” person is.

I got about 3 paragraphs in before I poured a coffee over it.
The first bit:
"We have forestry giants sending all our unprocessed wood overseas, to have it returned to us as plywood and hideous flat-pack furniture."I agree with that. Adding value to our own product is just sensible. We could start with other building materials but I can live with the comment in general.
Then there was this and I stopped:
"Our farmers can't make a buck out of wool, because now all our carpetmakers, bar one or two, seem to be sourcing cheap and horrid synthetic carpeting from overseas."She knows nothing about flooring / carpets. Wool only makes up about %10 of everything going into NZ homes. There are many reasons for this. SDN (solution dyed nylon) has come on in leaps and bounds. Stain resistant, healthier (allergies, etc) easy to clean, lasts longer. I could go on. It isn't "horrid" and it isn't a cheap acrylic alternative to wool. Wool gets carpet beetle, absorbs moisture. I could go on. The only people who buy wool from us now are, yep, farmers.
My point is if you are going to write an opinion piece at least do some research and know what you are talking about. An educated opinion it used to be called. Which is indeed the point of this thread.

I hope you don’t apply the criteria of that last paragraph to the fern.

Of course not. I know what I am going to get get here. The motto says it all.
I also know what I am going to get from stuff too, sadly, but they pretend to be a news outlet.

Can someone explain her point to me?
"Take back the mills!" ??

Can someone explain her point to me?
"Take back the mills!" ??That would involve reading more than the first few paragraphs and, in true Fern style, I'm not doing that as I can see no upside at all.

I read Polly Gillespie and almost barfed. That was enough for me.
I have had the good fortune to not have a clue who she is. That is now ruined for me, albeit by only a few words.

Just a Z grade kiwi celeb trying desperately to stay relevant. Be grateful.
