Michael Baker leading NZ epidemiologist signed the letter. As I've said before I have read a lot of negative comment from relevant scientists - but who knows Fingers crossed for the UK experiment.
Reports here that 24 hours after Freedom day there are restrictions being placed on night clubs?
Only restriction I've heard of is you will have to be double jabbed to enter.
I was thinking that’s unfair on people that are afraid of needles but then thought waaait a minute.

Picked from a tweet - but looks really promising so far. Vaccination really is a game changer
Great to see the shapes of those graphs but vaccination isn’t the only factor.
Most of the UK vulnerable have already passed away with Covid.
And by all normal measures of virus development successive strains are more virulent but less harmful.
Countries which chose eradication and who are waiting on majority vaccination will see deaths once they’re ‘open’
-
@mikethesnow it will be very interesting to see what effect vaccination has on death rates in those susceptible groups

It should have an effect on those at risk too. But as @MiketheSnow implied it is rarely just one thing. Culling of the susceptible will have an effect, vaccines will have an effect, rising herd immunity will have an effect.

Multifactorial yes

I’d be interested to hear other UK ferners views on freedom day. Locally to us, it seems not much of a change in attitudes and application. A bit less mask wearing, but similar social distancing, a little more flexibility about which doors we go in and out in public places (Ok I mean the pub), by otherwise fairly much as you were.
-
@catogrande Only difference to my life is not wearing a mask in the pub or a cafe.
Most people seem sensible, some reports of people on the Tube not wearing masks.
-
@catogrande No change around here much at all.
I help out in the local community shop and everyone still wears masks and social distances. I've heard pubs are bit more relaxed but people still don a mask when ordering from the bar or going to the loo.

Update: Was in ASDA this morning and plenty of people weren't wearing masks nor social distancing. Seemed to be a mix of locals and holiday-makers. Unsure if the likes of Waitrose or Tesco are the same.
Also my dentist has relaxed procedures a bit in their reception area. Pretty much the same PPE for the dentist himself though.

You do realise that this is a public forum don't you?

They do great pizza flavours like "Cheeseburger and BBQ Sauce" and a wide selection of cheap whiskies - as well you know.

Now I'm conflicted. I'm sitting somewhere between <shudder> and <ooh, cheap whiskies>
