No new community cases today. Its way early but at least we aren't seeing the kind of run of cases that will see us stuck in L3 for more than a week
just hope you are like Perth. Their last lockdown was on the back of 1 case (who happened to be an Uber driver) and they had zero community transmission cases.
Hope is all we have right now
bleak man
Not trying to sound overly dramatic. But i don't think the authorities have any other plan other than test as many as possible and hope the spread is low
to be honest, what else can they do?
as discussed above, build a more resilient community - mask wearing, social distancing, bombarding people with meaningful ad campaigns about testing, mask wearing, social separation ...
Mate, I have to say, this sounds like a horrible way to live. The constant bombardment during L4 last year was pretty scarring - team of 5 mullion, "this is a Covid announcement" coming on your car radio, it's all quite dystopian. Having a continued bombardment of information telling us how terrifying this thing is, just doesn't sound like a society that is fun be a part of.
Maybe its naieve of me to want / expect anything else, but it really doesn't appeal.
Then its the lockdown cycle for us. 1000 people at Murewai beach Sunday had to be told to disperse. Fatigue is setting in
I'm starting to sound like the "it's just the flue" whack jobs... but
can you blame them? You beat COVID some time last year when Eden Park was packed to the gills and it was a national fucking celebration. Well done everyone!! now go about your lives!
We all knew it was premature, but there was a seriously large amount of backslapping going on. And a lot of it pretty warranted if we are all fair. NZ still gets to do a lot of shit that people around the world can only dream of
You have a small number of cases, in 1 location (yes ish). This has been going on for 12 months. People are fucking jack of it. If your risk level looks (and in all likelihood is) pretty low, people are going to fudge it a bit.
NZ and Aus are in a great spot. People should be able to do a bit a the moment. Especially as summer comes to an end.

Someone correct me if my chinese whispers are wrong, but a confirmed case wandering around the community for a week and it's so infectious no other cases have yet been discovered?
-
@antipodean Same as the chick who drove around with her husband for hundreds of kms but he didn't get it?
-
@antipodean the copncern is, that the UK Variant presents differently with a slightly longer incubation.
But yeah the woman who drove for days around Northland with her husband supposedly had the SA variant, and he didnt get it.
Hopefully this is enough to jolt some people into remembering to do thie rbit.

That was an amazing one. Although not inconsistent with the level of close contact between a husband and a wife. The 21 year old must have been on a booty call with the underage member of the other household, hence their reluctance to fess up

@canefan I'm told that didn't happen. What happened was they had excess vaccine and sent out an email to GP's and more turned up than there was excess.
Haaaang on a minute, are you telling me that we can't believe everything we read on the interweb???
-
@antipodean apparently only about 1 -5 covid carriers shed enough viably virus to infect many or even any people.
At the opposite end of the spectrum are the super shedders. We don't want one of them gyming it.
What fucks me off is the apologists for this guy. He;'s too young, there could be a language barrier etc. Fuck Right Off. Covid is the most reported even in history and we have been living with it for over 12 months. There is no possibility this fucktard didn't know what he was supposed to do. He simply decided he didn't want to follow the rules.

So why the sudden unscheduled need to get people in for the jab? Mrs CF's sister got the call early Saturday evening with an offer to have the first shot immediately, no prior warning. That isn't evidence of a cohesive plan to me
-
@canefan they distribute it out to jab the border workers. For whatever reason they don't use it all. They send out an email saying there is some spare front up if you are interested. This offer is oversubscribed and they run out.
The Ministry said this situation is likely to repeat given they can't totally predict the uptake but that in future they will send out more targeted emails.
That doesn't sound like the lack of a plan to me. It sounds like Plan B but poorly implemented the very first time.

As far as I understand, this is what is happening in every country. If they have unused vaccine at the end of the day they text and call people to come and get it. Otherwise the unused vaccine will need to be dumped. I think there was an article about it happening in Israel in one of the Covid threads on here.

Yeah, it just doesn't look good. Clearly it is not possible to have a contact list of priority workers to run down as stocks of vaccine become available then.....

This guy is on the same page. South Auckland is on the front lines. Pay to get people to help spread the message. If it is too late to get existing staff or new staff up to speed early, enlist the help of community leaders and maybe offer some form of incentive. Try to create a real team atmosphere where people want to take responsibility for each other's actions
I'm loving the irony that a bunch of sky fairy believers think that covid is just a conspiracy and made up

The vaccine comes with extras and only lasts a few days once thawed, so it's easy to have leftovers.
Also, apparently NZ nurses can get an extra dose out of the vials - normally that takes special syringes (we have some, but not enough for everywhere), but our nurses managed to work it out using normal syringes. The vials hold 6 doses, so there's an extra 20% (DHBs were working on 5 doses out of a vial).

It just gets better...
It's the kind of thing you hide from contact tracers, right?

So the 21 year old was in contact with someone in the other household or he was covering for his mum?
-
@nzzp yeah why?
I think someone mentioned above maybe the 21 yr old was meeting up with a daughter in the household he shouldnt have, which is why they didnt disclose it, but in this case, they have disclosed all sorts, why hide this one??
FFS, people cant have thier heads in the sand so bad and not realise the risks of hiding this kind of info!

I think that was me thinking out loud. But maybe it was the mums all along and he was being the good son and trying to cover for her? Either way its fucken annoying. Hopefully now they know where everything fits we will be released on time
