I did find the article about the Watties Big Eat Butter Chicken that I found on that Manawatu Standard link interesting though.

It was on the 'more on stuff' part down the bottom.

I want canned Butter Chicken right now and there are no supermarkets open!
-

A good chance to get the Union Jack off our flag, was how I saw it

There's no sense having another country's flag on your own flag

Also another example of how people are resistant to change in general I reckon

And the publicity (advertising) for NZ worldwide would have been pretty big if we'd changed

Ahh well nevermind

When (if?) the Aussies have a go at this it'll be much of the same I'd reckon
-
Trouble is every proposed Aus flag is every shade of shit. We had a better chance because we have a popular national symbol in the fern. What could Aus use? A kangaroo or the coat of arms? A green and gold flag?

The result of the NZ vote would have been interesting if the rusted-on idiots who actually wanted a new flag had voted that way rather than make a childish protest against the Keyatola. -

Heard on the radio this morning that the Greens saw the vote as a massive defeat for John Key.

I hate the Green Party so much now. Used to have some respect for them, back when they had some decent people who truly cared about the environment. Now they are just a pack of wankpuffins who spit bile on EVERYTHING and it's so fucking tiresome.

The anti-Key brigade need a serious reality check. Who the fuck else in this country's political world is even vaguely leader material???
-

given polls seem to be pretty accurate in NZ, maybe the GReens should take note that Key is still far and away the preferred prime minister, the fact Whinnnnniie gets a mention in these polls says more about Labour and Greens than anything else.

-
Yeah this whole "defeat for John Key" angle is just bizzare. All he did was hold a referrendum to see if NZ wants to change its flag, for obvious reasons. And guess what, we DO live in a democratic society afterall, and NZ voted against changing. Are they saying if we voted to change it would be a victory for Key? Because that's equally as retarted.

Another reason to call them leftards. -

Any ferners heard of a british mp called Paul Beresford? He appears to be a massive cock.

Fuck me days. Sir Paul Beresford from Mole Valley (who could help but be inspired by the thoughts of the man repping this bustling, progressive metropolis) is living in some weirdo parallel universe. This dude sounds like he's about 150, and hard to believe he's left Mole Valley since he arrived in England.

"Even today, many of the older generation of Kiwis call the UK “Home†and treasure thick books of beautiful photographs of British scenes, even if they were born and bred in New Zealand."

Um, maybe about 100 years ago they did, Paul.
-

That was the part that got me too, plus the condescending bit about Maoris

"Now there is enormous national pride in the Maori "

Fuck off.
-

wtf - someone must be having a laugh giving that dude a platform for such out of touch shite.

-

forgot to say I was watching a news clip earlier in the week and the UK correspondant interviewed a Kiwi fella over there about the flag, he said he was voting to keep the same, didnt elaborate, they asked his GF , who was Irish, and she went into a rant about John Key...the interviewer then made some comment about her obviously having a good grasp on the goins on in NZ...or maybe she is just parroting her BF?

Shame, cos she was hot!
-
Jane Bowron is a leftard of massive proportions , she refused to support the abs at the rwc because the team was announced at the beehive ( never mind there were plenty of Labour mps there for the occasion ) but here she is tying 300 whales being killed by the Japanese in with the money spent on the flag referendum . http://i.stuff.co.nz/environment/78296250/Jane-Bowron-Arm-the-whales-and-free-the-chooks
I'm not sure what leftards intend our govt to do to stop the Japs from killing whales , I suspect it's just another convenient excuse to get up on their high horse . I'm surprised anyone would want to eat something so full of mercury anyway, then again I don't get their fascination with tentacle porn either .

I don't recall leftards being up in arms when the previous labour govt poured millions into the Americas cup something I personally couldn't give a shit about and less so when I found out our tax dollars were being used to prop up a millionaires sport . -
The Flag referendum is going to be a go to issue for the Key Deranged for years.

If any issue arises that they perceive can do with more funding the chant will be "he spent $26m on that!". (Never mind that $26m just isn't that much money ... for a government anyway). -
$26m is not even a drop in the ocean of Government funding. When people use that argument I immediatly lose a bit of respect for them. Hearing Little say it could have been spent elsewhere makes you think that he is either a.) trying to play up to a particular (feral) audience or b.) he is completely incompetent.
-

he is just grandstanding!

The Govt already spent more than $26mill on Health alone this morning, how much difference, really would another $26mill have made?

Sadly, the anti-Key/Flag change brigade now believe they have the ammo to shoot down the referendum process and everything about it, despite the numbers suggesting it was a worthwhile process, and showed that there is appetite for change.

Whether you buy into or believe the anecdotal evidence that there were numbers who voted against change because Key or because they didnt like the option (despite both lots wanting change) means the actual result for people wanting change would be higher, whether it is is enough to get past 50%...you will never get an option that everyone likes, some will always dislike it, but what people need to be able to do is look past that and see if the flag is more representative of NZ than the current flag.

I was very anti-RP, but if the choice had been between it and the current, flag, I dont know how I'd of voted, a) because I did like the supposed back story to it, which gave it a connection to NZ, b ) I do want change, c) I never saw it flying, and it was this that got me well behind the alternative design....fortunately I didnt have to make that choice cos I disliked it more than the other choices in the first part of the referndum!
