Got my bike back from the workshop yesterday afternoon...
So 25th-Dec - I'm plotting a full day's riding, ending in Taranaki at grandfather's place, who ain't doing well.
And reading this thread, with the mentions of delicious food and drink - particularly drink - I suddenly realised I'm going to spend all day riding, then get to my destination - without being able to buy any delicious delicious beer. I'm going to have to pretend to be pleased to accept a Speights Dark, or Tui.
Have I mentioned previously "Fuck Tui" ?
I might grab a bottle of whisky this afternoon, tuck it in the backpack, so at least there's something delicious, if not necessarily exactly refreshing.
Christmas lunch is looking like a BP pie.Go for Pepper steak at BP in bulls. I always have two…..as for beer, well I can’t help you there
Good call on the BP Bulls pie... but they only had 1.
I tried to get a second at BP Taumaranui, for comparison, but had to settle for some other bullshitHow do you end up there if you’re off to the Naki !?!?

Christmas Morning - and the perfect Meldrew Christmas present....
I hope you're having heated (fruit) mince pies with clotted cream, my Cornish Xmas fave!

Not with clotted cream - that's for the christmas pud. Mrs M's mince pies are divine on their own. She makes the mincemeat the year before and uses some almond flour in the pastry mix.
Happy Christmas!

Celebrated Christmas with my eldest son for the first time in 3 years, so it was a happy day.

Scenic route. Rather long day in the end.

Christmas was great for the Meldrews. Just the two of us and no Zoom or telephone calls except with Mrs M's mother. Very cathartic and healing after the last shitty few months. Only got a few presents but they were bloody great ones.
New Year, so far, however.....
We have 8 family members staying with us including a 12 yr-old brat and a Chihuahua (who is infinitely better behaved than the brat). So far the little bastard has broken the dining table by swinging on it and spilt candle wax on the carpet. Thankfully he pissed off one of our cats who fought back and the little bugger is now sporting some great-looking scratches on his hands.
Apart from the kid from hell, we are having a great time. Happy New Year to all from the Meldrews.
