@Baron-Silas-Greenback @dogmeat
My problem with Bridges is that he seems to be wanting to be in power for being in power's sake, as opposed to wanting to run the country because they have the best ideas, best systems and are best equipped to do so.
I see this in Aus too. It's about winning the election rather than selling why you should win.
Jackie's going to win this coz she hugs people. Bridges gunna lose because he's not giving reasons to vote for him.

Mate labour were so desperate to be in power they let Winston screw them while pretending he actually was prepared to go with national. He knew he could walk all over the Jassiah and he has .
Theres not much talent in labour and they've struggled to actually achieve anything of note in the past two years apart from creating the impression theres a lot of creeps in the party that like to prey on young volunteers and they'll cover it up and ignore the victims.
I don't hold much hope of this money being spent effectively considering they spent $300 million on the regional development fund [aka the NZ first bribe] for 616 jobs .Thats $484000 a job and we are somehow to expect they'll do better with more money?Some economists appear to agree that these cretins will find a way to fuck this up, I'd put money on the party that bought us kiwibuild making a hash of this too.

@Tim nope but "shovel ready" means roads rather than PT.
At a guess I would say Northern Tauranga expressway, Penlink, Whangarei - Ruakaka, 3rd main rail Wiri - Papakura, Skypath, something that allows them to say they're getting on with Light Rail in Akl and a whole host of stuff under the safety heading hopefully a lot of 2-1 conversions. Maybe some funding for deviations needed for a proper Akl - Ham rail service. But who knows. How much do they have to buy Winnie?

@Baron-Silas-Greenback wasn't wrong though - guys a fucking massive liability for National as @booboo and @mokey point out.

@jegga am not disagreeing.
But my point stands.
Jacinda will retain enough popularity, whilst Bridges is not likable enough. Bridges has to present as an effective Prime Minister as you're not choosing to vote for him as a person.
Yeah I agree. That's why I really wanted Bill to be PM - he never came across as someone that particularly wanted power for the sake of it. Would have been a fantastic PM IMO, it's a real shame the way it panned out. Went from having a strong PM with a stable government to the unholy alliance of NZ First and Greens having too much bloody influence on things coupled with a party with no leadership whatsoever taking the reigns.

Was reflecting on Bill when typing those posts.
If he couldn't sell the message to vote for the best credentialed candidate over the shiny superficial one then Bridges has no hope.

He lost because people value image and sound bites over real substance

@No-Quarter said it before English was a very impressive politician. Actually a lot warmer and mo0re engaging than he came over on TV.
Key was more personable and would always have a queue of people waiting to have a selfie with him but English exuded more competence.
Key was a leader, English was a Manager. Key was the off the cuff broad statements guy Bill was the detail nerd. Why as a team they were so powerful. They complemented each other so well. Not to say JK wasn't a very smart guy as he clearly was but as a politician that wasn't necessarily his role.
We were actually really well served by very competent leadership for nearly two decades with Clark/Cullen and then Key/English. It's why the current mob are such a stark contrast.

That should have been "shiny" but autocorrected to "whiney".

This sort of thing worked well for UK Labour
Hopefully they continue then!!!
Shitlebrity endorsements weren’t much help either

I’d put money on Latta standing for labour too . He’s denying it now but there’ll be some attention whoring self aggrandising video in his twitter feed in the not too distant future about wanting to help make NZ a better place for everyone and not just for the wealthy .

It's one thing to be a personality on TV, another entirely different proposition running for office (as Hayley Holt found out). I'm not convinced he has widespread popularity that would make people vote for him.
Am I missing something? Has Bridges released the outline of some "back to Victorian values" program that will subdue the poor, or is this just standard bleating from the beardy man?

The left in NZ have been desperate to try and portray National as the South Pacific version of the Republican Party despite them being to the left of the Democrats on most things . I think it’s that and a reaction to the Uk election results showing they are sick of left wing weirdos telling them they are racist and stupid for not thinking the same way they do.
-
NZ is devoid of good policies/parties to vote for. Seems to be a common theme world wide.
Those tweets really are shocking, trying to bring that bullshit to NZ's very docile political arena.

I saw a tweet from Golriz blaming the National party for the Christchurch Mosque shootings. She's a special kind of crazy.
