Go back another 5 tests and you get the first test vs Bangladesh and the second test against Australia.

Overall this has been a rubbish year of test cricket, that somehow included our single best series result.

Which we long suffering BC supporters will dine out on for many many years….

England made light work of that hundred odd runs. Have to applaud that sort of stuff.

    This kinda contradicts itself.

Sure a test loss is disappointing but let’s not forget that England are also horribly inconsistent at the moment and prone to exactly the sort of collapses and shit performances we have dished out. I think they’re 10 wins and 9 losses after today ?

No reason the BCs can’t win the next two.

My team for the next test……

    Latham
    Young
    KW
    RR
    Mitchell
    Phillips
    Blundell
    Smith
    Henry
    Southee
    O’Rourke

Conway gone. We can’t keep carrying him.

Chance for Young at home, give him the next two tests at least.

    KW is KW

Ravindra needs to put the dumb shit away, some shit cricket from him to get out like he did.

Mitch needs to remember it’s England.

Phillips will have more chance of a bigger score batting one spot up.

Blundell there cos there’s no one else.

Pacers all did ok and created chances, provided there is a shitload of fielding drills during the week we should be better in that department.

If we aren't going to bowl much spin, could we give Phillips the gloves and if he really needs to bowl get one of Conway or Latham to glove up for his spell? To me Blundell is way too long between drinks to keep his spot.

Yeah Mitch Hay is worth a chance good wk and a good bat,
He can’t go any worse than Blundell.

2 of the worst blackcaps performances I've ever seen (in about 40 years) have happened in the last 5 tests. Galle 2, and then this.

Worst I've ever seen was v Windies 95 at the Basin. I didn't see the Inzmam triple century match, that would match it.

The 2007 tour to South Africa would be up there.

Not sure anything will eclipse this effort……..( as an aside I don’t see how anyone whinging about today’s loss can remotely compare it to something like this ? )

Anyway, back to the present. The BCs are still a WTC final chance if they win the next two tests.

Doesn’t mean we are wrong mate just maybe we have some more insight than some.
Let’s see if selecting Blundell works for the next 2 tests and if he keeps failing how long they can defend him for.
Averaging 13 in the last year is pathetic for a player batting at 6.
Especially as his other role is not very convincing either.

Oh yeah, if he was a specialist batsman he’d be gooooooooooone.

But as he is ( apparently ) the only good keeper around he gets leeway to find form.

    Congratulations to England.

Urgent work is needed on the Black Caps. That was a terrible performance. They played like they'd been on the piss since the India series win.

Blundell's batting has been poor and his keeping untidy. Hay averages 47 in first class cricket - I'd be very tempted to make the swap.

I'd give Will Young a game ahead of Devon and probably bring in Santner for Southee.

I doubt any of these things will happen for the next test.

The wheels absolutely fell off in the 1st test. With England 71/4 in their first innings we were in a commanding position and Brook should've been caught shortly after. The rest was a complete shambles about which most of the team should be embarassed and donating their match fees to charity!

    Young for Conway
    Santner for Southee

The calls for Santner are interesting.

I’ll never forget his MOTM performance for as long as I live. Incredible

But does anyone really think he can bowl anywhere even remotely like that again ? Or even half as good ?

I guess he can’t be any worse than an ageing and increasingly ineffective Southee

That's what is so frustrating! We had played so well after losing the toss, and then we just dropped nearly every fucking catch after that. That's why we can't really read too much into anything else other than the obvious changes you guys are talking about, we should have won that test comfortably but you won't win a single game dropping 8 catches per innings.

To be honest, I've got no idea.

But, from what I've seen Blundell has been substandard this year, so I'm prepared to take a risk. I assume Stead has been watching him - and if he's at least Plunket shield standard he won't be worst than Tom.

Not sure about that. We would’ve made it more competitive and yes the dropped catches had a big impact, but we still looked a little brittle batting in that second innings. Even with a small lead or about evens, I still would trust a couple in our top order to make the most of it.

@ACT-Crusader 70 odd for 5 with their two best players back in the pavilion chasing 350? England were toast if we caught Brook and all the other chances after that. I stand by my comment.
