So many choices, depends on what you want. There are lots of craft beers in NZ that are very good, Garage Project, Panhead are a couple I like. There's always basic mainstream beers like Heinekin, Steinlager, Asahi, Corona if you want

Panhead Supercharger is a safe bet.
Crafty enough to be better than anything else mainstream but mainstream enough to be not too Crafty. Win/win.

Panhead XPA goes down like a treat as well but probably hard to find on tap.
But if it's a first beer then you'd have to go with a classic drop.

Surely that's an oxymoron?
Whenever I'm back in NZ I always have a few pies to keep going until the next time I'm back but I stick around the $5 mark (although with inflation on my next trip home this year I may need to bump it up to $6).
Although I have paid circa $10 for a pie in Oz (only because I had a craving after the algorithm kept giving me YT shorts of pies) which was decent but not great.

Some thing to check out if in Wellington.

Korean Gochujang pork belly is popular and people go bonkers for the Big Mac in a pie. But the pie de jour is their beef brisket with jalapeno bacon relish.

@Tim yeah she is a long drive upto Cape Reinga.
@canefan I took the kids from Whangarei to Cape Rienga and back in a day, pretty much a day trip! Not sure I'd do the trip by bus, even longer and then stuck to thier itintery.
Nice to break up the long trip with a visit to the Te Paki Sand Dunes.
Driving is the best and worst part of visiting NZ; you get to see so much more, but you have to bloody drive pretty much everywhere!
Second @dogmeat about Matakohe Kauri Museum, excellent! Similarly the one at Waitangi, make them 'must sees' if you are hitting this part of the country, if you are driving this part with time (that you probably wont have) head down the more rugged and isolated west coast and visit Hokianga and the Waipoua Forest with Tane Mahuta.
I am yet to go into the Hundertwasser Art Museum here, I'm not big on art, but IMO the building itself is the crown jewel, again, if you are here, the rolling ball clock near the Clock Museum is a fascinating piece of work (only a few mins walk between, with some good eating spots on the way)
