Mangrove Jack's American IPA.
Bit disappointing. No real punch, slight after-taste and a bit bland.
Disappointing to hear. I really liked the one we did. Maybe our palettes are different or maybe it was a bad brew ? ( doubtful, you seem to know your stuff )
Did you add any additional hops ?

I'll leave it another couple of weeks and see how it tastes. I have a Munton's American IPA brewing so will be interesting to compare.
Did you add any additional hops ?
Only what was in the kit. Not that knowledgeable yet!

We always buy extra hops recommended by our brew guru. They usually make it better although a couple of cases of far too much bitterness. My brew book is at home so will consult and let you know what we added to the American IPA

Four brews in various stages of readiness for Xmas…..
Black Rock IPA, Black Rock Hazy, Black Rock Wheat beer and Black Rock Bock.
First two will be magnificent. Duplicated a couple of brews I’d made earlier. Heaps ready for Xmas.
The Bock was a nice change but possibly a bit sweet for my palate ? Have saved a couple to age them and see.
Wheat beer was a piece of piss to make, will see how it tastes.
If there’s any doubt that Black Rock make superb beer pouches this should dispel the myth.

Beer kit shopping today.
Going for the old staples, Black Rock IPA and Black Rock hazy. Sure fire winners, some mates of mine said the IPA was proper brewery standard.
Have also gone for Mangrove Jacks Belgian Ale and Mangrove Jacks Raspberry and Lime Cider. The latter is gonna be a surprise for our other halves. Will do my best not to fuck it up. I’m reliably informed it’s possibly even easier than beer. Which is pretty easy…..the only danger is complacency setting in, getting the temperature wrong or forgetting to add hops. I think that’s how Tui was invented.
With the Wellington weather we’ve been having sure to last for months a lovely cider will go down a treat on a summers evening I’m sure.

nah, not shut. they went into receivership and the receivers sold it as a going conern.
So it's all on. Taproom still open, etc etc etc
so the founders stayed on? Cool.

I sadly confess I didn't know their taproom was very close to relatives, and they've hosted pinball comps. Now have a great reason to visit family.

I like it as a venue. Good fresh beer. Solid pizza. It's basic, but I'm a basic bitch and am quite happy sitting in the afernoon sun ingesting pub fare.

Grabbed a bottle of what I thought was IPA ( which is excellent as always ) and to my surprise it turned out to be Cider.
With the brown 750 ml bottles it's impossible to tell, must have mixed them up.
Anyway, even though it was slightly early it was excellent. REALLY nice. Excellent feedback from the other half too. I had the option of making dry ( no sweetener ) medium ( half a packet of sweetener ) or sweet ( whole packed of sweetener ).
Decided to go in the middle, would personally prefer a dry one next time ?
But yeah, piece of piss to make, shorter fermentation time. A winner.
