Arsenal beat Real Madrid both on the night 2-1 and in the tie 5-1. The holders are out of the Champions League.

It sounds like Carvajal and Bellingham were being dickheads too.

I didn't see the game (yet another streaming service needed in NZ to watch the CL) but did see the clip of Carvajal grabbing Saka in the tunnel at HT.

There's a bit of social media chat today saying Jurgen Kloop has been approached by Real Madrid about taking over as their coach at the end of the season.

Hope so, we need some crazy characters like him in the game.

    Aston Villa 4 Newcastle 1

Hit the woodwork three times as well. Gave the Toon a battering. A superb response to Tuesday's heartache exit from the Champions League against PSG.

Watkins was unplayable today. Deserved more than one.

Asensio should have tucked one away after the Newcastle goal too. Newcastle should be happy they only lost 4-1.

Leicester City and Southampton are already relegated with five games to go. It's mathematically possible for Ipswich Town to stay up but they would need to win all five of their last five games by stonking amounts and for West Ham to get thrashed in all five of their games.

So it is looks like all three of the sides who were newly promoted in August are heading back down again with several games to spare. The gulf between the Premier League and the Championship has never been so wide.

FFP. If teams overspend and go back down, they're fucked.

It's hard enough for teams like Aston Villa and Newcastle trying to keep up with the elite. It's just as hard for promoted sides to stay in the division because of the rules.

The danger will be dropping further because of their financial position trying to stay up in the EPL

Except three seasons ago Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest were the promoted sides. All have stayed up, consolidated and are pushing for Europe. Helped by several of the 'powerhouse clubs' having shat the bed.

They have, and it's awesome too see, but the crackdown in the last 2 or so years on FFP breaching is stronger than ever now, with Everton and Forest being made examples out of.

Fulham and Bournemouth had both been up and down a bit before that, while Forest only just scraped through to 38 points.

I wonder if making a promotion stick is about having a couple of cracks to benefit from the extra cash and boosting your squad so that at the 2nd or 3rd attempt you can stick the landing.

Will be interesting to see if Burnley can stay up after their latest yo-yo.

Crazy thing is teams used to be able to compete for high honors off the back of a successful promotion, now it's all about survival.

Forest, Blackburn, Newcastle & Leeds United all either won leagues titles or came close within the just a few short years of a promotion.

@Cyclops Given the talent within their squad Fulham should have stayed up in the 20/21 season but for Parker.

Manager's can improve just like players but given his previous failures in the Prem with Fulham and Bournemouth I wouldn't be confident if I was a Burnley supporter.

Look at all the draws they've had in the Championship. Classic Parkerball. History suggests it gets found out at the top level
