Hurricanes vs Chiefs
-
Arguably one of the most important games of the season on Saturday for both sides, with everything to play for.
The Chiefs will be wanting to claim an outright lead atop the Super Rugby standings, while the Canes will be looking to strengthen their playoff position before their bye.
We already know the Chiefs will be without ABs Dmac and ALB, whereas the Canes will likely put out by far their strongest side of the season.
Three key matchups for me in this game are:
- Aumua vs Taukei'aho: the clash of the two AB hookers who are down on form will be a fascinating watch. If they both play well we should see plenty of tries scored due to their game breaking ability.
- Lakai vs Sititi: Lakai showed in the last 30 mins of the game against the Crusaders that when he ups his intensity he can dominate a footy match. On the other side you have arguably the ABs best player of 2024 who looked very good in his return game against the Force. I'm hoping Sititi starts because that match-up will be huge.
- Roigard vs Ratima: here's hoping the Chiefs give Ratima the start. Ranked the 1 and 2 halfbacks in the pecking order, this battle will likely go a long way in deciding the match. The one that stands out could be the front runner for the first starting jersey of the season.

Wouldn't be hugely surprised if all three Chiefs players you've highlighted are on the bench haha.
I'm definitely picking Samisoni to start, not sure about Ratima because he seems to chop and change with Roe, and it's likely Sititi will continue to make his return from the bench, even though I'd love it if he started.

considering apparently the Canes will contain like 6 starting All Blacks i think they should be almost unbackable favourites

We'll take the underdog status thank you very much.

no no, come one, own it. You guys just won at the hardest home ground in the comp. By your own metrics you will name a stack of front line test All Blacks. Embrace it. Ignore your record and ladder position and focus on the now.

No, no, because when we are favourites we have an absolute meltdown, ala Semi Final 2024.

No DMac means the Canes are unbackabe favourites, after all they have Jesus, Allah, the Buddah, and Tawhaki all rolled into one in Billy Proctor.
(Tawhaki is a demi god like Maui but without as high a profile and is prominent in Ngati Porou stories.)
you're adding more gods than the Roman Empire...
-
@nostrildamus They went from Etruscans' to the Christian God, quite the religious evolution. We have already had a Christian (Cullen) that was god like, now is the coming age of the new pantheon or something similar, one hopes.

You just all wait until Riley Higgins comes of age.

Charlie Ngatai has posters of Billy Proctor on his wall

Fluffing up Hurricanes players is one thing but grooming them?

Hopefully someone has told Riley Higgins not to go for a sleepover at @Canes4lifes house

He might get jealous of my Proctor poster.

More likely backs to the wall if he hears you describe yourself as a Proctorlogist.
