As written in the Premiership thread, this game is now in a strange position.
Canterbury can't move on the table. They have nothing to gain and plenty to lose (through injury). Do they look to keep performance levels up heading into the finals, take it easy or look to give as much time to second string players as possible?
As for CM, they have a slim possibility of moving up one place and avoiding a rematch the following week. That would depend on Ta$man getting less points in their last match against Southland though.
I seem to think that CM will have a crack at getting 5 and hope that Canterbury ease up and save themselves for next week. If it looks like it is going to be a tough battle though it will be interesting to see who waves the white flag first and stores away the gunpowder.
Canterbury play the surrender monkey card and roll over.

Went pretty much as I thought it might. CM kept pushing until the Cantabs gave up.
The big positive is that after a few weeks of struggling to find their attacking mojo the Steelers may have got it back. They really do have some exciting players to watch when they get going.
Welcome back Tony Pulu! The stint in the Chiefs has lifted him a level above your average NPC player and from the bits I saw he looked classy.
The negative was head knocks to Tupou and Francis.
I'll take a win over Canterbury however it comes, so feeling pretty happy.
I guess it would be good to put a week between any potential rematch so will be cheering for the Stags to spoil the party and deny a four try win to the Mako$. Sorry Chris B but I'd rather the semis involved a "battle of the inbreds" -

@SammyC ha, he wasnt one, Canterbury usually have a token Northlander running about from time to time ;)...even thought Barrett wasnt very sharp...but then as said earlier in the thread, some of your lads needed a rest.

Barrett hasn't been that good lately actually, lack of physicality has been exposed a few times in recent matches.
I said to the old man recently if I had to choose between keeping Goodhue and Jordie I'd take Goodhue for sure (this was when rumours were about we were gonna lose both)

@SammyC I dunno if Goodhue was planning on leaving 'saders was he? I think he was keen to link up with his bro for Northland but not sure about Blues.

Heard via a crusaders board member that the Blues were chasing him pretty hard.
But had also heard the same as you from a different source.
Whatever the truth is, I'm stoked he's staying. Have followed his development at club level for a while and he's a player I have extremely high hopes for.
Wouldn't mind if he played for northland to be honest, it's commendable that he has that sort of loyalty. Just don't want the blues anywhere near him

I agree. I think Goodhue could be the better player longterm. Mainly because I think Barrett is potentially a little tall and gangly to be an effective midfielder, and he lacks genuine speed over the first 10-15 metres. Barrett's best position could be 15, where he can use his kicking game, and he has a bit more time to get up to full speed. -
