@Bovidae said in Crusaders v Brumbies:

Watched the 1st half on mute as you know who is the commentator. That YC was harsh - penalty only.

Franks better watch his tackling technique with the new laws.

I thought it was fair enough - it was careless by the Brumbies player. You just can't do what he did (pretend you think you're the only player on the field who might attempt to catch a ball) it's pretty simple.

It's interesting commentators always say , but his eyes were on the ball ,
I don't believe that is in the rule book

I always wonder how a player is supposed to roll away if there's a pile of players on top of him.

Crusaders have managed to make sure they've got two crap scrumhalves. This one can't pass.

Some things don't change - Jackson is still rubbish.

Crusaders not terribly convincing but given how they usually start seasons they'll take the win.

Thought Taufua, Goodhue and Dagg were the Crusaders best.

Bridge I thought would go better but he has ability - worth sticking with.

Taufua, Crotty and Dagg carried that team to a win.

Different interpretation in the Highlanders-Chiefs game last night. DMac was clearly taken out in the air on one occasion but Fraser said it was a contest for the ball.

I revise my prediction if the cousin-lovers can only beat an Aussie team by a couple of points at home

Pretty ugly - but, take the four points and onward and upward.

At times the forwards looked a bit under-powered and for much of the second half we looked to be hanging on a bit. But, for some great covering back by Wyatt Crockett it could all have gone horribly wrong.

Richie Mo'unga will need to find his kicking boots.

At the end of the day the Crusaders began last season by losing to the Rebels. Yes the Rebels.

So I'll take a dodgy enough victory over the brumbies.

Well-deserved win for the Crusaders, but man, if you create chances, you have to take them. Tough Brumbies defence though.

I thought Dagg, Taufua, Crotty and Goodhue were very good. Barrett & Samu not bad either.

Jackson was bad again tonight; ponies very lucky with his decisions at times. The YC was deserved IMO.

Considering the Crusaders usually start their season with a loss and the Brumbies are potentially the best Aussie side (or the Tahs), this isn't a bad result at all. It will be interesting to see how they go next week against the Highlanders. Hopefully, Todd's injury isn't too bad and do we get to see Digby Ioane making his debut for the Saders in SR.

We would have been fucked without Crotty, seriously the number of time he comes from nowhere to pull out a genius tackle, him and Dagg obviously a class above anyone ont he paddock, except of course Whitelock until he went off.

Dagg was the playmaker, at 1st receiver quite a bit and went looking to open it up. Not Soapo's best night. Goodhue does the yards.

Winza win, Bumboys took it hard but ended up on the bottom.

Matt Todd was unavailable due to having surgery on Friday to clear-up a leg infection. He's expected to be fit to play next week.
Tamanivalu went off with a tight hamstring. A wait-and-see for next week.

This was the first 1st-round win in Christchurch by the Crusaders since 2010, by the way.

It's 6:30 am and I finally get home to post on the game (big ups Ali Williams 😉 and Krafty Kuts, if you want a great party set, he's your DJ! Everything from Ian dury to 50 cent)

Overall pretty happy, the brumbies always start the season well, we were always the better team and it would have been horribly unlucky to concede a late runaway and lose (or draw? Shit I can't even remember the score........did I mention Ali Williams?)

I reckon Bryn Hall was bloody good, Drummond can fuck off. Was quick to every breakdown and dealt pretty well with all the niggly shit that fardy, carter and those other soft cocks aim at the halfback at pretty much every breakdown (no idea why most Aussie tight forwards do this instead of dropping the shoulder and doing real work, it's so ineffective). Enari looked a bit out of his depth, but is young and Hard to criticise when he only gets 10 min at the end.

Douglas and Samu were great, the latter will be an excellent impact sub when we have our full strength team.

Got a text from my mate at half time "I see Jackson is still a massive cock" nuff said.

Taufua our best forward for the 50th game in a row. Pity he's too small to make the abs and will prob take the cash sooner or later, because he's earned a crusaders jersey for life. My favourite crusader (and the old mans) which is pretty awesome because both of us usually prefer the local boys (Wylie, Thorne, loe) and yes I'm claiming loe as a local boy.

    Goodhue and Crotty best backs

Not sure if it's been mentioned but crusaders defended M'oaga at fullback from set play, dagg on the wing and tamanivulu (sp?) at first five, good luck finding a weekness against Seta, Crotty, Goodhue at 10-12-13. All were immense on defense.

Very happy with the new gameplan from Razor. Lots of willing ball runners and attacking the close channels. A welcome step up from the last 8 years of side to side shuffling bulshit

And all members this year got a crusaders beanie and blanky... Best free stuff since the "members scarf" in 2005. Not to mention the signed xmas card from razor himself (a musical card that plays "conquest of paradise")... All good signs they are focusing on the fans again, the atmosphere in the pub pre game reminded me of the Robbie Dean's era (well 99 onwards when I was old enough to hit the pub). And the crowd at the game was excellent,,,I think Rennie has shown the way with getting the community involved lived with the Chiefs (heavily influenced by Wayne Smith of course @Crucial @Unco 🎣 😉 )

Well shit, it's now after 7am, fucking hard to write on the iPad in this jolly state. Wonder how many spelling errors I made (fuck auto correct). Guess I'll think about waking the wife up for some fun (fuck Mexican girls rule @Bones 🙂 )

Crotty and Goodhue were excellent on defense, made first up tackles and also a lot of covering defense cleaning up breaks.

Also so good to see Dagg dynamic and getting his hands in the ball. After being one of his biggest critics it's awesome to see such a change in attitude. Glad he's signed up for another couple of years

Also Wyatt Crocket made a couple of great tackles (one potential try saver) late in the match. Plus he cleaned up that kick.
