A promising start in some ways, but bad habits in others.

Eating-wise, I had a dodgy quarter chicken for lunch along with a bottle of Coke. Poor, terribly poor.

However, for tea, it was a fairly lightweight honey mustard chicken stirfry with rice.

After tea, I got on the bike and went for a 30 minute ride. Pushed hardish (at least for someone getting back into it) for most of the way in a high gear and my legs were certainly getting the lactic acid going after a short while.

Felt better for it.

If you are stuggling kicking the fizzy drinks, try picking the diet versions. In the words of Arnie "Sugar is da enemey"

just a case in point here that i'd just like to raise as I feel some people overlook such things.. not targeting you volty but just something people should keep in mind when they're trying to lose weight..

excercising for less than 90 minutes is not going to burn any fat.. what you're doing above for example will help you gain fitness but it won't have any impact on weight loss...

if you want to lose weight it's diet diet diet i'm afraid..

even lance armstrong weighs his food to make sure he's not taking in an ounce more than what he needs! and look at the distances those boys train

The other thing about exercise to lose weight is you don't want to work too hard. If you do you will burn carb as it is easier for the body to convert when working hard. Should be around 65% of max heart rate. This won't get you fit but it will burn more fat. Cruise to Lose. This has always been my downfall in the past as I always wanted to go hell for leather. I put on muscle but didn't actually lose much fat.

Apologies for re-stating the obvious, but if fat loss is the goal a lot of posters seem to be working too hard.

it is hard to go slow at times - I 'cruise' at around 140-150 on my 'training' rows, and then it blows out to 180-190 when trying for PB times.

yeh and that's one of the reasons why i think it's easier to lose the weight thru an agressive diet program, then ease back to 'normal' (with restrictions - why did you get fat in the first place).. then do your exercise which is now easier and more fun now you don't weigh a ton!

So going for a 20min jog every night is not actually helping the weight loss? There's no way in hell I can jog for 90mins!

Surely it's got to help someway as I am sweating like a pedophile in a playground at the end of it??????

Modification of the diet does help of course, but if you also increase muscle mass you're going to burn fat just through things like brisk walking etc. Take the stairs instead of the lift and all that shit.

Exercise does change the way your body uses fuel though. If you exercise (cardio) regualrly you will raise your metabolism and burn more calories when you aren't active.

You have to do exercise and diet, and exercise needs to be a mixture of cardio and resistance training (as your body burns fat to mantain muscle)

Voltman, you lazy fat prick, pull your hands out of your date, wash them thoroughly, and go and lift some fucking weights. You are a fat prick living in Oamaru for Christ's sake. If someone had told you that would be your lot at birth, you would have thrown yourself head-first out of the pram. Or you should have.

At least you can do something about the weight. And have a fucking shave whilst you are at it. Jesus, you look like Hairy Fucking Maclary.

You have become the first poster to earn my wrath as a Moderator, but there is time to redeem yourself. Cook me some eggs and get yourself a salad sandwich while you are at it. Before I get really angry. And then go for a run.

I am about to power-walk home, then go for a run before eating a nice little bit of kangaroo for dinner. After my dinner I expect to log on to the Fern and find out what you have done, or intend to do, to correct your failings.

Once we have got you back on the straight and narrow (there will be no need to thank me), MvJ will be rectifying Crusader "I'll-start-fatbusting-once-I've-smoked-myself-half-to-death" Corey. And then the sparks will fly.

Jesus... for some people it's the carrot, others the stick.
